Some eastern Kentucky residents are cleaning up after severe storms hit a couple of counties hard.

We have several reports of trees down, blocking roads and damaging houses.

The hardest hit areas appear to be parts of Letcher and Pike Counties.

Witnesses say strong winds, rain and hail pounded parts of Letcher County.

Cleanup crews are already out assessing the damage and clearing debris.

Several trees are down and some even fell on homes.

We talked to one resident who says he's lived in the area for 35 years and he's never seen anything like this.

“No, no, I've never. Never seen no kind of high winds, nothing like that. I seen wind blow on top of the mountain and things like that, but I've never seen nothing like that, not the water, the way it was pouring rain, and hailing. It kind of reminded you of a hurricane you see on tv. I've never been in one. and I just sat there in the car,” Gary Lamaster said.

“They really knocked down some big trees. We're having to bring some big equipment in just to move them out of the road, so we can get our traffic in and out, get our emergency vehicles in and out. We've had some fallen power lines, power lines, a lot power out at this point,” Letcher County Judge Executive Jim Ward said.

Judge Executive Jim Ward says the hardest hit areas are Hemp Hill, Yont Fork, and the McRoberts communities.

The county's main concern right now is clearing the roads in case they do need to get to anyone.

The county is also working to restore power.

No word yet on the number of outages.
