At least six people are recovering after they were taken to the hospital from a fast food restaurant Friday night.

The Long John Silver's in Whitesburg closed Friday night after fire officials tell us a customer and several employees became sick.

Investigators are still trying to figure out exactly what happened at Long John Silver's Friday night.

Officials spent the night checking the building from top to bottom, and though the restaurant has reopened, no one knows why so many people ended up sick.

Rumors are flying after last night's scare at this Letcher County Long John Silvers.

“I heard somebody passed out over there last night, and the ambulance came and took four or five to the hospital, I don't know what happened,” Ralph Combs said.

At least six people were taken to the Whitesburg ARH for nausea, vomiting and fainting. All were released overnight.

“What they found out through the blood results is that here was no presence of any type of substance, carbon monoxide or anything else,” Paul Miles said.

Fire crews evacuated the building and opened all doors checking the scene for anything that could have made so many people sick.

Sam Stacy, Chief of the Hazard Fire Department, says they used their gas detector at the scene Friday night and found no carbon monoxide inside the restaurant.

“Everything shows up fine. There was not any indication that of anything inside the restaurant that would have caused the illnesses that happened,” Miles said.

The restaurant reopened at noon Saturday, waiting until they felt their restaurant was 100 percent safe for customers.

Though many people said this will certainly not turn them away from Long John Silver's.

“I go there every day and I'll continue to go there. I love their food,” Combs said.

Long John officials are still investigating the cause of the sickness.

Employees were not allowed to comment on camera, but a representative from Long Johns says he is glad all those taken to the hospital are doing well and he's happy to see the restaurant's doors open again.
