Class was in session for many firefighters with the Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department and other nearby agencies. But for some, this was no ordinary training session.

Firefighters were able to work on a variety of techniques and hone their skills at the Regional Fire School hosted by the Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department.

“We will get to watch the fire as it progresses,” says James Smith, a Woodbine Volunteer Firefighter.

But moments before the house burn exercise, a call from dispatch came in. It was a trailer fire, about 10 miles down the road off Highway 6.

“I've seen flames coming out of that window. I've seen smoke,” said one witness.

No longer were firefighters in training. They were on the scene putting what they've learned in the classroom, into action.

“We had a quick response on it. Nobody was home at the time the fire was mainly contained in the living area living room,” says Rick Fore, WVFD Fire Chief.

The Woodbine Volunteer Fire Chief says no one was injured. He did not say if there was a clear reason why the fire started, but did say he suspects someone started the fire and stressed it is still early in the investigation.

Woodbine's Fire Chief says he was impressed with the response time and the units’ ability to put out the fire quickly.

“They were all up there...training exercise and they burned house when this call came in,” says Fore.

Fore says the training served them well.

Fire officials with the Woodbine Volunteer Fire Department say they'll continue to train Sunday. Once again, a second burn session will be part of the training.
