Could your future home have a meth lab in its past? There is a new way to find out if a home or apartment you are considering housed one of the hundreds of meth labs found in Kentucky.

Finding out if your home could be toxic is easier than ever. All you have to do is get a computer and visit a website. It will tell you if a meth lab was once in your future home, or neighborhood.

Police say there was once a meth lab in one home in Dwale in Floyd County. The woman who lives there now had no idea until we told her. She was surprised by the news, but didn't want to talk on camera. Neighbors remember the meth lab four years ago.

"It is harmful to breathe it," said neighbor Christal Dawson.

Neighbors say they believe the home is fine now, and the woman who lives there now says she hasn't had any health problems, but police say not everyone in her situation is as lucky.

"There's still residual amounts of chemicals left and hazards associated with it wherever the meth was manufactured in," said Lt. Sean Welch with the Kentucky State Police.

Now you can find out if a meth lab was in a home before you decide to move in. The DEA's website lists all the addresses of busted meth labs.

"I think information is always a good thing, especially someone who is considering moving in to a house where the origin of what happened there is kind of unknown," Welch said.

The home on Monument Drive is listed along with hundreds of others in Kentucky. Christal Dawson thinks it is a good tool.

"It helps let you know what's in your community and what's going on because you've got your kids to look out for, and then you want to know what's going on in the neighborhood where you're going to live," Dawson said.

The woman who lives there now says she will check the list before choosing her next home, so there will be no more toxic surprises.

"If you want to check the list, you can log on to http://www.usdoj.gov/dea/seizures/index.html.

A new Kentucky law went into effect last week to help the problem. It requires property owners to tell future owners or renters a meth lab was in the home if it was not properly cleaned up.
