Dozens of drug suspects are off the streets.

It was an early wake up call for many suspected drug dealers in Clay County. Officers started knocking on doors early Tuesday morning.

Kelley Godsey says his day didn't start out the way he'd planned.

“Woke up and the police were at my door. I had an indictment warrant on me,” Godsey said.

Police say Godsey was one of more than 20 drug suspects on their list. They say the arrests are the result of months of investigating the suspects for buying and selling drugs.

Police say they're working together to fight the drug epidemic to make Clay County a safer place to live.

“It's an ever growing problem in our county here and we're trying on a daily basis,” Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Curry said.

“I think it will serve the community a great deal if we can get them picked up as soon as possible,” Manchester Police Chief Jeff Culver said.

“Combating that problem to try to make our county a better place to live and to raise our children and grandchildren,” Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson said.

Officers say there are two types of drug dealers in Clay County.

“Those that are caught today and those who are going to be caught in the near future,” Culver said.

“Your day will be up. You’ll see the sheriff's office or whomever knocking on your door arresting you for trafficking narcotics,” Sheriff Johnson said.

Godsey says he knows first hand where you'll end up if you get involved in drugs.

“No chance for dope you all. That’s it,” Godsey said.

Police were not able to track everyone down who is on the list, but they say they will find them.

Sheriff Johnson says if you have information about a possible drug suspect, you can call the sheriff's office. He says they just want the information and you can stay anonymous.

'CITY OF DOPE'NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION AND PERHAPS ANGER I SHALL ADD..IT IS SURE SAD WHEN YOU PUT A SIGN UP IN GOOD FAITH THAT READS 'CITY OF HOPE'TO HAVE IT DEFACED.THE SADDEST PART,IS THE MAJORITY OF CLAY COUNTIANS OF WHOM I HAVE TALKED,HAS AGREED IT IS INDEED A REFLECTION OF WHAT THIS COUNTY HAS INDEED BECOME.IT'S A BLEAK SITUATION WHEN A GREATER MAJORITY OF PEOPLE FROM OUR COUNTY ARE SUBSTANCE ABUSERS(BASED SOLELY ON OPINION).IT'S A SHAME HOW EASILY THAT SOMEONE WITH MULTIPLE DRUG SELLING & DISTRIBUTING CONVICTIONS CAN GET OUT OF INCARCERATION SO QUICKLY.IT SHOULD BE A LAW THAT MULTIBLE OFFENDERS CANNOT GET OUT OF INCARCERATION EARLY DUE TO GOOD BEHAVIOR.BETTER YET,HOW ABOUT KEEPING THEM IN PRISON FOR 50-LIFE AFTER BEING CONVICTED THREE TIMES.YOU MIGHT SAY,WELL WE DON'T HAVE ROOM OR RESOURCES TO SUPPORT THESE KINDS OF SENTENCES.ESSENTUALLY,IF YOU TAKE AWAY THE DEALERS,THE TRAFFICKING WILL STOP DUE TO LACK OF DISTRIBUTORS NOT WANTING TO DEAL WITH THE RAMIFCATIONS.WE CAN'HOPE'.

When a sex offender is caught their names are made public, as they should be. Why don't they have laws to keep track of these drug dealers so the public could help out by knowing who they are.

Why are all of you people being so negitive? I think that it's great that these guys are trying to clean this place up. I think it's great that we have a Sheriff and Cheif of Police that are trying to improve our County. People need to have a little more respect for what they are doing and I support them 110%!

It's called supply and demand and then there is the pay-off factor involved. think about it too much money changing hands to ever stop it--why bother.

i think drug dealers need to be caught and convicted

It doesn't matter how many times people get arrested for trafficking or whatever drugs, it isn't helping anything. If people want drugs they get them, no matter how or where they have to get them.

Now we all know why our city is called "the city of hope", all these drug dealers are hoping they won't have to leave town just move to the Federal Correction institute across the road.
