Dozens of drug suspects are off the streets.
It was an early wake up call for many suspected drug dealers in Clay County. Officers started knocking on doors early Tuesday morning.
Kelley Godsey says his day didn't start out the way he'd planned.
“Woke up and the police were at my door. I had an indictment warrant on me,” Godsey said.
Police say Godsey was one of more than 20 drug suspects on their list. They say the arrests are the result of months of investigating the suspects for buying and selling drugs.
Police say they're working together to fight the drug epidemic to make Clay County a safer place to live.
“It's an ever growing problem in our county here and we're trying on a daily basis,” Clay County Sheriff’s Deputy Christopher Curry said.
“I think it will serve the community a great deal if we can get them picked up as soon as possible,” Manchester Police Chief Jeff Culver said.
“Combating that problem to try to make our county a better place to live and to raise our children and grandchildren,” Clay County Sheriff Kevin Johnson said.
Officers say there are two types of drug dealers in Clay County.
“Those that are caught today and those who are going to be caught in the near future,” Culver said.
“Your day will be up. You’ll see the sheriff's office or whomever knocking on your door arresting you for trafficking narcotics,” Sheriff Johnson said.
Godsey says he knows first hand where you'll end up if you get involved in drugs.
“No chance for dope you all. That’s it,” Godsey said.
Police were not able to track everyone down who is on the list, but they say they will find them.
Sheriff Johnson says if you have information about a possible drug suspect, you can call the sheriff's office. He says they just want the information and you can stay anonymous.
