A four year old Johnson County boy is fighting for his life after neighbors found him barely alive in their swimming pool.

It happened around 10:00 Monday morning on Stambaugh Branch Road in the Sitka community.

Another child, a three year old boy, found by the pool is now in the custody of social services and sheriff's deputies are investigating.

The four year old boy in the pool is still alive, but he was just flown to Cabell-Huntington Hospital in West Virginia.

Investigators say the two boys live a half mile down from the pool.

Now they're trying to find out how the boys got so far from home.

Emergency responders say neighbors found the four year old boy floating face down in their pool, and the three year old boy getting ready to get in the water.

Investigators say the neighbors quickly got the two boys, called for help, and started CPR to keep the four year old from dying.

“Every measure that could possibly be taken, was taken,” Lt. Tom Wyatt said.

Authorities say the boy is alive, but is fighting for his life.

The neighbors and boy's family are too shaken up to talk.

“The parents appear to be emotionally distraught. I don't think it's hit them yet,” Lt. Wyatt said.

Sheriff's Deputies say the boys lived a half mile from the pool.

They're investigating how they got away from home and in the pool, but they're aren't releasing any details about their investigation.

The three year old boy is in social services custody during the investigation. The four year old is in Cabell-Huntington Hospital.

Investigators say everyone hopes he survives.

Authorities are not releasing the boys' names or the families’ names at this time.

They also don't know how long the boy was in the water.

Sheriff Deputies aren't sure how long their investigation will take or if it will lead to any charges.

IT IS A GOOD THING SOCIAL SERVICE TOOK THE OTHER TWO CHILDERN AWAY FROM THE PARENTS, THIS IS CALLED CHILD NEGLECT THE FAULT OF THE PARENTS NOT THE POOL OWNER, NOT SOCIAL SERVICE, WHAT HAPPENED HERE IS A CRIME IT IS CALLED CHILD NEGLECT AND ACCESSORY TO MURDER. I HOPE JOHNSON COUNTY PUTS THE PARENTS AWAY FOR YEARS.

It is a tragedy about the child and their parents not doing their jobs. Whats a bigger shame is that the Johnson County sheriff and his deputies take advantage of something like this to get publicity.

Tell me whats the difference in leaving your young children by themselves around A pool or letting them ride ATV's up and down the highway dodging cars and trucks. I grant you the four year old should have been watched better, but I see six and seven year olds on ATV's every day. Hey sheriff! How many little children has your pathetic office put off the road. How many little children's parents have been jailed for letting them operate ATV's? Is this your fault? Social services in this state leave a lot to be desired.

It's a good thing Social Services took the other child away. This can't be called an accident, it's plain old neglect. I can't imagine the parents not up taking care of their children at that time, or any other time. Children that age are not suposed to be taking care of themselves.

I will be praying for these children. I know I have an almost 3 yr old and she does slip away if we aren't watching here all the time..but we try to keep the doors locked and someone in her sight at all times. I'm curious about how these babies got a half a mile down the road myself, I know toddlers can move fast but not that fast.

Why would anyone take a child away because of an accident.I hope the boy is OK, butwhat happened here is not a crime.Kentucky is locking up everyone in sight.

How on earth do you let a 3 and 4 year old out of your sight long enough to go half a mile? I just don't understand how anything like this could happen. I've been praying for both of these children, their parents and the owners of the pool all day Monday, from the time I saw the ambulances go that way.

I would like to know how a 3 and 4 year old can get 1/2 mile down the road and noone know about it? Where were these distraught parents while they were wondering 1/2 mile and while they were in water unattended. I am thinking that this didnt happen in a split second. There was noone watching these children for an extended amount of time and that is a shame!!! I hope that something is done about this!

Where were the parents? They should be jailed for their neglect and be charged with accessory to murder if the child dies. My prayers go out to this child.
