Police agencies are teaming up for their yearly Border to Border patrol on local highways.

More people hit the road when they have a long weekend, and officer want to make sure drivers follow the rules. They say drinking and driving is their biggest target during checkpoints.

“Being drunk driving and being impaired are kind of two different things. Like the commercials, it's easy to tell when somebody's drunk, but not many people can tell when you're just impaired so it allows us to go out here and make the roads a safer place,” Letcher County Sheriff’s Office Sergeant Brian Damron said.

The checkpoints were rained out Thursday on the Virginia - Letcher County line, but checkpoints are planned all weekend long on Kentucky's borders.
