For people across Eastern Kentucky, the temptation to get involved with drugs continues, especially for young people. But three churches in Clay County are coming together to fight that.

No matter what age you are, for several people in Clay County, drug abuse hits close to home.

Eva Couch has seen drug abuse affect people she knows, “Nephew and neighbors. Honey it's bad.”

16-year-old Carol Belcher says she has too. “Whenever I was little, like my mom she did drugs and it sort of kind of got me thinking that I don't need to be doing that because it's not very good for you and you could die from it.”

That's why Panco Community Church, Fairview Baptist Church and Mount Paran Baptist Church raised almost 9,000 dollars to hold a three day youth revival.

Eric Kiper, with Panco Community Church, says, “We actually done car washes, basic fund raisers, bake sales, corn hole tournaments.”

Church leaders say the event called "GLOW" or God Lights Our Way, is all for one reason.

Zach Gay, a Panco Church member, says, “The church community can just show them love and show them that the things their doing is wrong in more of a way in then being judgmental on them. It's just showing them that there's something else greater than what they're doing that can satisfy their hearts.”

Several local motorcycle group members are supporting the effort.

Michael Gibson, with Christian Motorcycle Association says, “This is all about the kids, anything that we can do to get our kids closer to god. Kids are our future.”

A future that church leaders hope gets kids off the streets and off drugs.

Gay says, “If they didn't have something like this coming here about a love that they can find in more then just the drugs and things around them, then I think the area would be different.”

In the fifth year of the event, church leaders say they just hope they're making a difference.

Church leaders say over one hundred kids attended each night, to listen to guest speakers and bands.
