WILLIAMSBURG, Ky. (AP) - A Southeastern Kentucky soldier killed in Iraq has been buried after a funeral service in his hometown.

Sgt. David K. Cooper's remains were laid to rest at Bowlin Cemetery in Jellico, Tenn., near his hometown of Williamsburg, Ky.

Cooper was killed Aug. 27 in Qadasiyah, Iraq, when his dismounted patrol unit came under small-arms fire.

Cooper, 25, was a sergeant in the Forward Support Company, 4th Battalion, 42nd Field Artillery, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 4th Infantry Division out of Fort Hood, Texas.

i only hope that i can be like my dear friend david. i loved him and will miss him very much,and will remember all the nights we spent in that guard tower our first trip to Iraq together!

A note for the family of Sgt. David Cooper. I appreciate that your son gave his all in service to our country. This country needs more young like him full of convictions and the courage to stand up for what he believes. It is my prayer that he may rest in peace. I do not know if he was married, but if he was extend my condolences to his bride.
