People from inside the state and beyond the border like Don Osborne of Middletown Indiana came to see some elk.

"We are going out to some of the sights and see some and we will get some pictures" Osborne said.

The eastern Kentucky native is not alone.

Chris Lutter from Pennsylvannia flew in Saturday morning after he won a raffle ticket from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation.

Lutter says he plans to pump some money into the local economy.

"I am sure i will be spending more money here for eating and with the tag for archery i will be able to hunt all the way to January 19th" says Lutter.

The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation along with Knott County officials put on the event. Both parties say they are happy with the turnout.

"I know last night we had a elk tour that went out and it was 10 dollars a head to go out and i think about a 100 people went out on that" says David Ledford from RMEF.

Those numbers are why officials say they see bigger and better things for the event and economy next year.

"We plan on doing these every year and every year there are going to be more and more elk hunters so we are expecting it to grow every year" Ledford said.

I am proud to say that I myself enjoy watching elk, and believe it would be a great tourist activity. BUT, this WILL not keep our children away from drugs, nor will any other events, the only thing that will keep the children from drugs, is the PARENTS. Elk, sports, busy things wont help in the least, Parents have to plant the seed.
