Congressman Harold "Hal" Rogers (KY-05) announced that the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development (USDA-RD) program has approved a $12,900 grant for the Wolfe County Sheriff's Department to purchase a new police cruiser. These funds will allow public safety officials in the City of Campton and surrounding areas to provide additional protection and emergency services for the rural population in Wolfe County.

"Whether it's responding to an emergency in downtown Campton or racing to an accident on a winding country road, our law enforcement personnel need safe, fully-equipped and reliable transportation to get to the scene," stated Rogers. "I continue to be impressed by the valuable partnerships forged between the USDA and the rural communities in our region of southern and eastern Kentucky, and this investment by USDA-RD will go a long way towards speeding response times and increasing public safety in Wolfe County."

The USDA-RD community facilities grant program assists the development of essential community facilities in rural areas and towns of up to 20,000 in population, such as constructing, enlarging, or improving community facilities for health care, public safety and/or community and public services. Grants are awarded to municipalities, counties and non-profit corporations, and areas with low population and low income receive preference in the evaluation of grant applications.

Wolfe County, and the City of Campton are sure to benefit from the additional public safety vehicle provided through this program. The Wolfe County Fiscal Court will contribute $4,300 towards the new police cruiser, bringing the total cost to $17,200.
