A Floyd County man charged with murder after a deadly weekend car crash pleads not guilty.
Jonathan Pente is being held on half a million dollars bond in the Floyd County Detention Center after police say he was driving under the influence and slammed into a van at an intersection on U.S. 23 early Saturday morning.
63-year-old Loretta Elswick of Pike County died. Pente is also charged with menacing and resisting arrest because police say he left the accident scene.

I'm sure when Mr. Pente got behind the wheel of his vehicle he did not have intentions of taking Loretta's life. Alcohol makes you unable to function coherently. It's a risk you take, and if you're willing to risk it, then you should be willing to pay the consequences. Loretta was a beautiful, caring, lady. Why should responsible drivers fear traveling our roadways because of irresponsible alcohol induced drivers. How do we make this tragedy better? How do we stop the hurting of Loretta's family?

Not guilty? The last time I checked, someone who was not guilty didn't flee the scene of an accident. In my opinion, he was guilty the minute that he got behind the wheel while under the influence. Since Loretta was one of my family members, I hope that justice is found. Her husband, children and grandchildren have a big empty place in their lives now because of his "not guilty" actions.
