Three children are recovering from burns after their house catches fire.

The fire broke out early Monday morning at a mobile home on R.D. Rains Road near Williamsburg.

Six people were inside at the time. Two adults suffered minor injuries. Another child was not hurt.

But 9-month-old twins, Colt and Zoey Stephens, and their 2-year-old brother, Andrew, suffered first and second degree burns. They were taken to Kentucky Children's Hospital in Lexington.

"I can't stop thinking about it, i still makes me want to cry," said Joe Stephens, the children's father.

Stephens along with several others had to bust down the front door of the home to reach the children, who were trapped in a room next to where the fire started.

"It was so hot and the smoke was really thick, I couldn't breathe, but I knew I had to get in," Stephens said.

Like his children, Joe suffered first and second degree burns on his arms and hands.

Investigators think a cigarette next to a couch in the home's living room started the fire. The home is considered a total loss.

"As long as their was no loss of life, I'm ok with that," Stephens went on to say.

The children are expected to recover. Two-year old, Andrew was released from Kentucky Children's Hospital overnight Tuesday. Twins, Colt and Zoey, are listed in fair condition.

Thank God the babies are going to be ok. I hope the parents realize what could have happened and quit smoking in the home. What are they thinking? Smoking also causes SIDS. I guess we all make mistakes, just hopefully they learn from theirs

Good job dad!!!!! I would seem it would be second nature for parents to save their children, but anymore it seems like it's more parents taking their own childrens lives. You are a true example of a great dad. May God be with you and with those special children...

It's good to find a news story these days that involves a parent saving their children instead of abusing and/or killing them.

No one said it was the parents' who left the cigarette burning. There were other adults in the house at the time. Besides that, don't point fingers anyway. I'm sure whoever it was is kicking themself enough as it is! We just need to thank God these people weren't hurt any worse. I think people should try to help this family out since they lost about everything. These children especially will need warm clothes for the cool season coming up. My thoughts and prayers are with them at this time.

Hopefully the parents will learn their lesson and not smoke in the house anymore. Not only does it pose a fire hazard, it is bad for the health of the children. Best wishes for the speedy recovery for these poor kids.
