An eastern Kentucky restaurant that's been a favorite for decades, finds itself hurting from not only the economy, but something else.
The Dixie Cafe in Corbin is no longer selling alcohol and may have to compete harder for customers.
The Dixie Cafe and it's Dixie Dog have been an eastern Kentucky favorite since the 1940s.
The Corbin restaurant had to close in 2005 after many other local restaurants began selling liquor by the drink.
It opened back up in 2006, but soon had to make a change.
“I had a lot of people who said I want a beer with the Dixie Dog, so I thought okay, i'll try it,” Marsha Tropser said.
The Dixie stopped serving booze last week.
Only 30% can come from alcohol and 70% from food.
With low menu prices the owner says they just couldn't do it.
When state officials questioned sales Owner Marsha Trosper decided to give up her license.
“I didn't really want to sell alcohol in the first place, I just did it to keep the doors open. To me it's just not worth it,” Trosper said.
Now the Dixie will have to compete against 8 other Corbin restaurants that are serving alcohol.
Marsha Trosper hopes those longtime faithful patrons will help keep the business going for a long time to come.
The Dixie Cafe has scaled back it's hours.
It still serves breakfast and lunch but closes at three o'clock.

Obama sure isn't going to do the job. Just wait and see how much crying your going to be doing if he gets in there. Not saying I'm for McCain, but Obama is not the answer either and he will not get my vote!

I thought restaurants had to have a minimum seating capacity of so many hundred to sell alcohol? I don't think you could get 75 in the Dixie.
