A hazardous material unit from Letcher county removed the threat. This after Leslie County Constable Sam Caldwell found a gas generator that may have been used to make meth.

It all started monday night, when Leslie County Constable Sam Caldwell says he received an anonymous call about a suspicious container laying on the side of route 1780 in Asher.

"I have never find any on the side of the road" Caldwell said.

Out in the open and near homes Caldwell put the suspicious container in the trunk of his cruiser.

"It was twenty ounce and it was about a third full" the Leslie County Constable said.

Caldwell then met with a Haz Mat team wednesday at the Hyden city park. They identified the container as a gas generator.

Officials there say they suspect it was salt and acid in the gas generator.

The salt and acid are some of the key components to manufacture meth.

"Tthe one that I got as a suspect was seen in that area walking up and down the road" Caldwell said.

Caldwell did not want to release more information about a possible suspect.

I bet this gas generator was in a container similar to a mason jar? Just a quick search of the internet will reveal this is a device used to get better gas mileage from your automobile. I say it simply fell off a car....since it was in the wide open in the ditch line. The salt and acid in the container was probably nothing more than baking soda and water. The gas it produces is called "browns gas" and is hydrogen. HAHA....Completely harmless...I can imagine a hazmat team destroying this in the city park...
