The Former Train Conductor and Ohio Native says wood carving helped him put out his last cigarette for good. That was about 30 years ago.

"To keep from smoking I just cut wood. and then I just got in a habit I guess" Myron Sandlin from Buckhorn said.

Sandlin says he has carved out nearly 1,000 items including a life-size Bald Eagle.

"it took 1,000 hours to put him together. I cut out all the feathers and stick them on there" Says Sandlin.

When he needed a break from the Bald Eagle, the Perry County Man says he focused on the "Last Supper."

"I got it done September 22nd. It took me 800 hours to cut it out. And it is made out of cedar." Sandlin said.

The 64 year-old also carved a deer.

"The head on this deer is made from the wood off this hill. It is lynnwood. A lot of people call it bass wood, but its lynnwood" says Sandlin.

The Perry County Man says his items are not for sale although he is known to give some of them away to people including to the likes of Johnny Cash and Gulf War General Norman Schwarzkophf.

"The only difference between his and mine right underneath this emblem here there is a bear head carved out and put into the cane" says Sandlin talking about the cane he gave Schwarzkophf.

The 64 year-old says his next project is close to his heart, he plans to reproduce both of his grand daughters faces to wood.
