With Thanksgiving just one week from Thursday, we are asking for your help in our annual Mountain Harvest Food Drive in partnership with local LKLP community action agencies.

The food drive helps feed families in our region who do not have enough to eat this holiday season.

Today we meet a Perry County grandmother who is struggling to feed three little mouths.

21-month-old Gavin loves his stuffed animals and his bottle.

"Really he likes just about anything," says his grandmother, Valerie Couch.

Couch relies on food stamps to help feed Gavin and his older brother and sister, who are in school today.

"These kids are eaters, they're big eaters," says Couch.

Couch tries to buy the healthiest groceries she can afford. With hungry mouths and rising food prices, "I had to let a few of my bills go this month," she says.

The holidays are not looking any brighter. Couch's husband was laid off three months ago.

"This year, I mean it's hard, it's going to be a bad Christmas," she says, because she's afraid she'll have to let go of some family traditions.

"Some things I just can't buy. like ham, I used to buy a pretty good ham you know cause my family, they like ham. This year I bought a little bitty ham," Couch explains.

Little Gavin likes to eat and laugh. Couch hopes the Mountain Harvest can help keep those traditions alive.

If you would like to help us meet our 50-thousand item donation goal, you can donate non-perishable items until December 19th. LKLP officials are making a Thanksgiving food delivery next week.
