Many people are working extra shifts, or even second jobs to make more money and keep up with the tough economy. There is one business that requires some time and skill, but is paying off.

The holidays are getting close and not only are people looking for ways to find inexpensive gifts, but also ways to make some extra cash. Some say the answer to both is crafts.

Teresa Stacy says she needs to sell her crafts at the Hazard Community and Technical College Craft Fair to make some cash for the holidays.

“I decided to go ahead and set up because I’m trying to get my son and my beautiful daughter-in-law and my grand baby home for Thanksgiving and it takes a lot of money to do that especially in the economy we're in right now,” Teresa Stacy said.

People selling crafts say despite the slowing economy, business is good because people are looking for bargains.

“I mean I've cut my prices. I’ve tried to be really reasonable in my prices,” Stacy said.

“If you're offering the public a good product at a good product at a fair price, sales come for that,” Gina Goodrich said.

Experienced craft sales people like Wanda and Billy Baker say it's good for extra cash, not an entire income.

“If you're doing this for a living you're in trouble,” Billy Baker said.

Especially when the price of materials, like wood, keep going up.

“If you buy a board to fix it, it costs $10 a board,” Trina Hamblin said.

That’s why these crafters say stores are raising their prices, bringing shoppers to these fairs to take advantage of the low prices.

The Hazard Community and Technical College Craft Fair will continue all day Friday.
