The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for light snow which is in effect until 6am Tuesday for Harlan and Letcher Counties.
Numerous to widespread snow showers are expected at times today, mainly this morning and again late in the day. At 2,000 feet elevation and above, temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing for the entire day and this will lead to light snow accumulations. Temperatures in valleys are expected to remain in the mid and upper 30's today leading to no snow accumulation. An inch or two of snow could fall today at 2,000 feet elevation and above with another inch or two also possible tonight in these same areas before the snow showers become more scattered and taper off to flurries. This will bring storm total snowfall to the 2 to 4 inch range at 2,000 feet elevation and above by dawn on Tuesday. Locally higher amounts above 3,000 feet and in areas the receive persistent snow showers cannot be ruled out.
The National Weather Service in Jackson has also issued a Winter Weather Advisory for light snow which is in effect
until 6am Tuesday for Bell and Pike Counties.
Snow showers or mixed rain and snow showers will turn to all snow at 2,000 feet elevation and above by dawn today and numerous to widespread snow showers are then expected at times today, mainly this morning and again late in the day. At 2,000 feet elevation and above, temperatures are expected to be at or below freezing for the entire day and this will lead to light snow accumulations. Temperatures in valleys are expected to remain in the mid and upper 30's today leading to no snow accumulation. Around an inch of snow could fall today at 2,000 feet elevation and above with another inch possible tonight in these same areas before the snow showers become more scattered and taper off to flurries. This will bring storm total snowfall to the 1 to 3 inch range at 2,000 feet elevation and above by
dawn on Tuesday. Locally higher amounts cannot be ruled out in areas that receive persistent snow showers.
For all other areas around Eastern Kentucky, generally a dusting up to one inch of snow can be expected by Tuesday morning.
A Winter Weather Advisory for snow means that periods of snow will cause primarily travel difficulties. Be prepared for snow covered roads and limited visibilities and use caution while driving.
