Across eastern Kentucky, road crews are on standby, waiting until snow sticks to the roadways, and for crews in Harlan County, things are no different. M.D. Farley and his crew are ready for a big snow event.

"We are doing everything we can to get ready for the snow. It's supposed to freeze up tonight and we think tomorrow's got potential to be a real hazardous day," says Farley, the county's road foreman.

Farley says all the county trucks can be salting roads in less than 30 minutes. Harlan County crews can not pre-treat the roads, but have to wait until the snow starts to stick.

"We go and put a little salt on the real bad hills that are just real treacherous when snow is on them," says Farley.

Around town, the potential snow seems to be on everyone's mind.

Cathy Hill, manager of the Harlan Food City says, "You hear rumors, anything from nothing's coming up to 3, 4 ,5 inches!"

Grocery stores in Harlan County are seeing extra customers rushing in for milk, eggs, and bread.

"A lot more people than usually this time of year. it usually slows down after Thanksgiving, but we're been a lot busier due to the snow," says Hill.

Vicky Day of Cawood was stocking up for the snow, "We thought we would get ready for snow, go out and get some school supplies and things for the kids' lunches and things."

Farley says if possible, it is best for people to delay their drive to work or school so the crews can do their job and make the roads safe.
