FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - A group of atheists has filed a lawsuit in
Kentucky seeking to remove God from the state's homeland security
detail.

American Atheists Inc. filed the lawsuit in Frankfort on Tuesday, claiming Kentucky violated the Constitution by enacting a law in 2006 that stresses God's role in protecting the state.

Attorney Edwin F. Kagin called the law "one of the most egregiously and breathtakingly unconstitutional actions" that he has ever seen.

Kentucky Homeland Security Director Thomas Preston declined to
comment on the lawsuit.

Of particular concern to American Atheists is a clause that requires the Office of Homeland Security to post a plaque that says the safety of the state "cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God."

The group seeks unspecified financial damages and legal fees.

Because god is not real, NO gods are real. He is a fairy tale...plain and simple. Christians say he is the alpha and the omega...if that was a fact we wouldn't need Homeland Security at all. Instead you would rather believe in the invisible man in the sky, who by the way is making a mockery of you christians, by not doing what he says he is capable of doing. Why not just hang the sign and be done. If he is all powerful then we really don't need armies. Why not just pray, if he really hears you; again, we do not need armies. I believe christians are serial killers, killing in the name of god, the way they have done since they conjured him up to fill some void that is not reality. The miracle rain that falls on your fields also falls on your Atheist neighbor's field. And I guarantee your Atheist neighbor did not pray for rain! It is not a miracle it is called weather patterns! I agree with other comments too, get an education people!

Who is your creator? Our Heavenly Father is the creator of all! I thank Him for all those who fight for our freedom! Help all our unbelief and strengthen our faith. In Jesus Name

Christians postings on this page have strengthened my unbelief. The KKK is founded on christian purity. Kicking us out onto our own island I would actually prefer that way your next holy war wont involve me. The way you all have handled yourselves on this forum is ugly. Your christian views have been nothing but hate and defamation. You all should be ashamed of how you represent yourelf, your religion, and your state. We do not have God to thank for our security. We have hard working individuals fighting for our freedom to live without the fear of others, god and terrorists. The christians on this page sound like back woods white terrorists you would rather see us dead than the religous fanatics that keep us in fear.

Do we really want GOD out of our country? If you take the time to read the old testament. You will find when the nations replaced GOD; with money, power, greed & the pleasures of the flesh. Being lovers of themselves rather than loving & living a life with GOD. You will notice this is when GOD would send his prophets. The prophets, would warn the kings to repent & bring GOD back in there life's. If the kings choose not to repent, kill the prophets, or throw them in prison. Those nations did fall. If they listened & repented there kingdoms were blessed, & continued to prosper. You might say this is rubbish & came from a book of myths. Or see the bible as a history book of our ancient ancestors. There are many scriptures that say GOD wants you to prove him. Give GOD a chance & He Will prove that he exist & that he exist in YOU! So search GOD with all your heart. & let GOD prove himself to you. What do you have to loose. GOD Bless All & our Great Country.

Why is it, that if I object to seeing two men making out on TV, or a viagra commercial during afternoon TV, while my granddaughter is watching, of a Harry potter show, that tries to encourage my young child to believe in black magic, instead of GOD, I am told, you can change the channel or look the other way, Why can't that go both ways. If you don't believe, then look the other way. I think that maybe you do believe and it bothers you so much that you can't bear any reminder of what you are doing or promoting is wrong. It’s called coming under conviction.

Dear LOL, With regards to "being surprised", I'm not losing sleep or worrying. I also don't waste time putting my faith in invisible support networks. A heavily armed man standing guard at the border is infinitely superior to wishful thinking, crossing one's fingers or hoping for intervention from something that almost probably doesn’t exist.

Connie in frankfort said: "You who quote the Constitution on separtion of church & state, tell me what paragraph do you read that from?" Madison's original proposal for a bill of rights provision concerning religion read: ''The civil rights of none shall be abridged on account of religious belief or worship, nor shall any national religion be established, nor shall the full and equal rights of conscience be in any manner, or on any pretence, infringed.'' The language was altered in the House to read: ''Congress shall make no law establishing religion, or to prevent the free exercise thereof, or to infringe the rights of conscience.'' In the Senate, the section adopted read: ''Congress shall make no law establishing articles of faith, or a mode of worship, or prohibiting the free exercise of religion, . . .'' For those needing clarification: it states the government is not to promote one religion over others (or the lack OF religion). IE: Seperation of church and state.

Some of these comments are really disheartening. Stop for a minute and read what some of you folks have typed up. The hatred that has spilled from your finger tips. Not one atheist has said they'd wish death, hell, or even war on a single believer here. Can the believers say the same?

Posted by: Michael Location: Colorado Springs on Dec 17, 2008 at 05:09 PM
The first amendment prohibits laws respecting an establishment of religion. A law requires a governmental body to post a sign using the title of a mythical being from established religion(s) and claiming that this mythical creature protects the state, is a law that is respecting an establishment of religion. I don't care which religion it is, they all need to keep their imaginary friends out of our laws.

Some people here need to remind themselves about the Christian values they claim to hold. I am an atheist who has served in Iraq. I also understand the nature of the Constitution and the reason behind separation of Church and State. It is a shame not everyone can say the same. It is also a shame that those who are so vitriolic about hating "atheists" and keeping three letters in office, are so poorly educated they fail to spell even the most basic of phrases. Shame on them all. Well done American Atheists.

Good work American Atheists! From the hate filled posts and outright threats I've seen here from Zealots it looks like we cannot afford to take this ridiculous Christian supremacy sitting down one second longer. Atheist Hater: take your meds. You just said you want to murder whole families. What's next? Flying planes into tall buildings?

Posted by: Fred Location: Bloggsville on Dec 12, 2008 at 12:10 PM
All of the fundie posts just look like they come from a bunch of bigots and bullies, who cannot bear anyone to think other than the way they do. I can't believe anyone can equate 'athiesm' with being a member of the Clan (sic) and actually post it. Didn't the Klan burn crosses?

Posted by: Michael Location: Brooklyn, NY on Dec 11, 2008 at 09:21 PM
What an awful headline on this story. Did this site pay one of the Christian fundies commenting below to write it? The lawsuit is to stop religious proselytizing by Homeland Security. The phrasing above plays right into the "Oh no, they're trying to ban Jesus!" hysteria. I wonder if that's accidental.

HEY CHRISTIANS CHECK THIS OUT! (Matthew 6:5-6) And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagoges and at the street corners, that they may be seen by men. Truly, I say to you they have received their reward. But when you pray, go into you room (or closet) and shut the door and pray to your father who is in secret. From the Holey Bible.

Posted by: RiverOtter Location: NC on Dec 9, 2008 at 09:07 AM
Go! American Atheists go! The politics of the United States needs to stay NEUTRAL! If you want to WASTE you time praying for security, do it in your home or in your church. Don't be wasting mine and the rest of America's time or money doing it. Church is the proper place for that. Churches are tax exempt to the expenence of all Americans including Atheists. That should be the extent of your government dealings.

"safety and security of the Commonwealth cannot be achieved apart from reliance upon Almighty God"." What does this have to do with saftey and security? This is simply another attempt to force religion down our throats and further divide the citizens along secular and religious lines.

Posted by: Vertity Manumit Location: Dallas, TX on Dec 8, 2008 at 03:55 PM
Good for the atheist group. Our Constitution provides for both separation of church and state, and freedom of religion. Religious references do not belong in the documentation of the Dept. of Homeland Security. If people choose to believe erroneously that God exists and is there to protect them, then that is their choice. But the DHS should be unbaised, intelligent, and competent. We need them working on national intelligence, not holding hands in prayer asking god to protect us. Christians are constantly trying to undermine the fundamentals of our Constitution in their efforts to establish a religious state, much like that of Iran. Unfortunately, intellligent and fair-minded Americans must keep constant vigilance against this kind of religous fascism. These commenters below need to go get an edumaction.

I'm glad these people are doing the right thing, even when it is not popular. If we don't defend the Constitution when freedom of religion is being violated, what other part are we going to ignore next? It must be followed in whole, or it has no meaning or purpose in this great country of ours.

What is the point of including God in homeland security? It's not as if he did anything to stop 9-11. Do you honestly believe that he will help prevent the next terrorist attack? If we include him in homeland security and the terrorists to successfully attack Kentucky can we then kick him out of homeland security for not doing his job?

Next week or next month, something else will be the new "fad" of being politically (in)correct. They will move onto something else. Same as all the other "special interest" groups. Kind of like they change their gripe according to the time of year. Wasting your time and effort, let them go make fools of themselves. Eventually the time will come and all of their endeavors to push God out of everything will be something they will have to answer for, whether they believe it or not. Sad for them....

Hebrews 3:19 (19) So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Paul puts his finger on the source of the Israelites' problem, why their heart could not be changed, why they consistently and persistently sinned and rebelled: "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief." Paul later turns this thought into an admonition for us: Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. (Hebrews 4:1-2) Not only did Israel have the witness of numerous demonstrations of God's presence and power among them to provide a foundation for faith, but they were also given the Word of God by His servants Moses and Aaron.

You who quote the Constitution on separtion of church & state, tell me what paragraph do you read that from? Why do you insist on taking it out of context? As I read the Constitution of the United States, I see no such requirement to separate church and government. If fact, I see the opposite. This country, whether you like it or not, was founded on Biblical principles! What the Constitution says is that no government body shall FORCE religious beliefs on another. That doesn't mean that you can take GOD out of anything or off anything. They simply means that the government cannot for instance put "Jesus protect us" because that would be a specific religion, but to put "God" is not an endorsement for any specific religion. I agree with some of you, these people are just out to make money & get some attention. They should not be allow any money, after all it does say in "God We Trust" on it which is supposed to offend them! They cannot have it both ways! Either they are offended or not!

Christians calling people names is not very Christ like, I cannot believe if Jesus posted on here he would be calling others hateful names no matter what their beliefs are. Its behavior such as this that give Christians a bad name. If you want to see change, then you must let God have control and start with prayer. It even states in the Bible that in the end of times, things such as this would happen, its called the "birthing pains" of the rapture. One final comment, If the Athiest are right, then what do we lose, but if the athiest are wrong, imagine how they will spend eternity. I am sure they know what the Bible says about an unbeliever, we have all been warned of the end and it is up to each individual to make a choice, God would not want it any other way. He gives us all a choice.

Posted by: tom on Dec 4, 2008 at 10:59 PM
It is about time people get this "separation of Church and State thing right. Research the letter from which the term was taken and see how it was used and why. It was in a letter to a group of Baptist ministers to insure religious freedom, not to remove it. This "quote" has been taken out of context totally and for some reason no one in high office cares to point this out. When I saw this lawyer representing the atheists group on the news today referring to God as "some invisible magic man in the sky" and to those who believe in Him "fools," I actually feared for my family's safety and that of our country. I think this is BIG in a way this lawyer can never imagine. Good luck to everyone in this country after this.

NOW FOR ALL OF YOU SO CALLED ATHEIST I WOULD SAY TO YOU, THAT YOU DO NOT BELIEVE IN ANYTHING BUT YOURSELF. WELL, GUESS WHAT YOURSELF HAS GOT YOU NOWHERE. SO SAD, THAT YOU WOULD TRY SUCH FOOLISHNESS. I AM HERE TO TELL YOU I SERVE GOD THROUGH HIS SON JESUS, AND HE IS REAL AND ALIVE AND WELL. SO NOW THAT YOU HAVE GAVE YOURSELF A CHANCE AND IT HAS NOT WORKED TRY THE LORD.HE WILL!! IF NOT THEN LET THE FOOLISH REMAIN FOOLISH!! I MEAN THAT IS IF YOUR NOT SCARED OF WHAT YOU MIGHT FIND.. LIKE SOMETHING REAL. I JUST WONDER HOW MANY OF YOU ATHEIST HAVE EVEN CONSIDERED GOD. AND IF SO THEN YOU KNOW THAT IN YOUR HEART YOU HAVE TO WONDER. WHO IS THIS MAN THAT EVERYBODY SAYS IS LORD OF ALL LORDS, WHO IS THIS MAN THAT CAN HEAL THE SICK AND RAISE THE DEAD AND EVEN KEEP ME OUT OF HELL? ITS NOT GODS WILL THAT ANY SHOULD PERISH, BUT HAVE LIFE.

My first comments were our country was found on certain beliefs and principles. I'm sorry I hit the wrong key and submited my response before I was finished. Again as a Christian I want to tell everyone about God, and his son. If you don't accept my words then just tell me and I'll pray for you. My pastor said a comment not long ago that has stuck with me since. He was telling how he was talking to a family member who is ill and don't believe in God. The family member said what if all this time your beliefs are wrong, think how much time you've wasted. My pastor said "what time have I wasted" it's made me a better person, on the other hand what if I'm right. Many may not believe in God or his son Jesus Christ, that's my right. I feel no one has a right to take that away from me. I believe we need to keep the principles our country was founded upon. I hope you will reconsider your beliefs and pray before its to late. I will be praying for everyone.

It boils down to this: Atheism: The belief that there was NOTHING and NOTHING happened to NOTHING ;then NOTHING magically exploded for no reason, creating everything, then a bunch of everything magically rearranged itself, for no reason whatsoever, into self-replicating bits, which then turned into dinosaurs...makes perfect sense, doesn't it?

They are getting their "fifteen minutes" of fame here. That is all it is about..They do not care what the plaque says. It is all about money, as usual. We can argue back and forth on here to no avail. The "non-believers" are not going to change their minds. They have nothing to look forward to, unless they are the sect that believes they will "turn back into earth and nourish the tree" that will grow from them...Let's hope that that tree they turn into is cut down and turned into paper and used to print the bible on. LOL!! How would that irony suit them!! Believe what you want, you will be sadly surprised when the day comes to stand before the Lord and explain why you were against him or never for him. Good Luck with that!

I think that this group of people are infringing on my rights as a Christan who does not only (believe) in GOD but knows that GOD "does" exist!! and these people have no right to take any of my rights from me. I believe I should have a right to have the word GOD where ever I want it. This group of idiots just want money and when those lawyers won that law suite last week it set a presidence so now they will be entitled to the money. And you know they will gladly take it and correct me if I'm wrong on all US currency it says "In GOD WE TRUST" but you can bet they will have no problem taking it (the money)!!

In regards to the lawsuit filed by the American Atheists Inc., as Americans we have the same rights too. Our Judicial system was founded upon God. How can we let 10% of the people control our laws? I think before removing these documents, the state should let the people vote on it.

If you are a true Christian you don't need the word GOD on anything. We worship GOD not the word.We as Christians don't have a right to force our beliefs on anyone. If putting the word GOD on something changed things for the good we wouldn't have all the evil that goes along with money. Why would we put GOD on something so evil? We have no right telling people how they should live their lives. Christians are the ones that make GOD look bad. We don't practice what the whole bible teaches us. We excuse some sins and we attack others. We act as if being gay is the only sin for example. We excuse divorce and fornication when we shouldn't. GOD gave us all free will so we should live our lives to please him. We shouldn't try to force people to live the way we want them to. WE all are Sinners! We spend to much time telling people they are going to hell instead of taking care of our own sins and weaknesses. Worship GOD not the word!

Ok, so you all want the word "God" taken out because it bothers you, well, the words "Homeland Security" bother me, I think I'll put in a lawsuit against that. You say you are atheists, which means that you don't believe in ANYTHING except yourselves. That is fine. I don't believe in you, so I'm also filing a lawsuit against you. I don't think you should be able to be in KY if you don't believe in some "God." And it's my understanding that it only says "God" so unless you were told by the one who wrote it, I don't think that means which God. You can stipulate that you believe it is one God or another and I can stipulate that I think it is my God (which by the way is the only God in my opinion whose son is Jesus Christ), but that is neither here nor there. How about this: We all live in this great state and get along and don't worry about who is serving who and where their name is. Get over it! Jesus died for you, too! Whether or not you believe in him he still paid the price!

To Proud Atheist and Motley: I will contact my attorney tomorrow and see how much I can take you all for because your causing me stress. Your correct its your right to believe as you wish BUT you should not be allowed to push those beliefs on the American people who love the LORD JESUS! You and your "group" of FEW are causing much pain and sorrow for the "group" of many. I bet we could get more damages than you could. Sueing for something that probably more than half of you have no idea what it means or is, is crazy. OH.. new idea... How about we keep our soldiers over here and send you all over to defend the United States. I pray that God will will touch your souls as there is only one destination that you are headed.....

You religious fanatics are pathetic. Can't you survive without a government handout? You are always there with your begging cups out, expecting our tax dollars to support your narrow view. If you don't like the Constitution, move to Saudi Arabia, where you can live in the theocracy you really want. Your god belongs in your churches, and in venues that YOU, not the tax payer, pay for. This country was founded as a secular nation, rebelling against a theocracy. As always, the fundamentalist nuts conveniently forget that. If your faith is so weak that it cannot stand without forced financial support from those who believe differently, then the problem lies with you. Nobody is infringing on your rights. You can practice your religion all you want, ON YOUR OWN DIME. It is you, who are infringing on the rights of the rest of us by constantly shoving your religion down our throats and trying to make us pay for it. Your churches are already tax exempt, yet you demand welfare. It's shameful.

"GOD"! This nation was founded with the belief in "GOD" and it needs to be remain with these beliefs! There has been a few people that has caused a lot of things like prayer in school to be stopped. I feel that these people's constant crying has also led to some of the problems we have today in this country with crime, abortion, and moral's worse than any animal!! If you don't want to read these 3 letters then don't, just turn your head and please keep quite while the rest of us who do believe in GOD read these articles! Further more if you don't like the thoughts of reading the BIBLE or seeing the words GOD or JESUS feel free to go to another country like Iraq. Ihear they may have a lot in common with your ideas... GOD BLESS THE USA...

If America truly is 90% christians, then why does the 10% get their way, or try harder for their cause, what a shame to us christians. But..even these idiotic non-believers will still fulfill prophecy one day...even if their mocking God (capital G).Every knee shall bow, & every tongue shall confess that Jesus Christ is Lord", thats what the Roman soldiers did. Also, "faith" is a gift of God, so God is sovereign over EVERYTHING, and he hasn't deposited faith in these individuals, at least not yet. There has to be nonbelievers too, thats what hell is for. But it's funny how they benefit from God's blessings like free fresh air, life, food, etc.and dont complain, but if God turned his back on us for one second everything would be devasted. There'd be a "Big Bang" alright...destruction!! not for me though!!!! my address is #7 Gloryland Way! Also...seperation of church and state was designed for the state to keep it's nose out of the church's business! not for the two to be separate.

You know? *lol* It's just like an atheist to sue over a plaque just to get money out of it. It's no wonder you don't have a religion in the first place. Your selfish. Why worship God when you can worship yourself and get what you can from others through hateful and spiteful ways. You just want money when our nation is in a crisis. I pity you and I hope others do too.

I know everyone has they're own belief, the fact of the matter is Jesus Christ is the one who saved us from hell.Jude1:18 I am he that liveth and was dead;and behold, I am alive for evermore,Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Everyone has the right to beleive (or not beleive) in God or who ever and we all know there are many religions in our country. I'm a christian but I don't get mad and try to sue people who aren't of my faith. I go about my business and live my life happily. Why throw yourself into a hissy over something as lame as a paper hanging on a wall? It's not hurting anyone. It's not even saying anything bad, it's asking for protection. I don't care it your Athiest or not. If you don't like what it says, don't read it!!! I personally don't like hearing people put down my religion, but I deal with it. Your friggin adults so act like it.

I would like to know what the Atheists have to do with home land security any way. Just because they choose to worship the devil doesnt mean that the rest of us does. We dont tell them how to worship or who to worship so they should keep their noses out of the way every body else worships. I bet they dont refuse to take our money which has the words "In God We Trust" written on it. They are trying to take God out of our every day livesw but I am one that will say God Bless America and no one can take God out of my life. That is what is wrong with the country now the Atheists seem to have more rights than the christians do. They need to look back and see just where they came from. If they dont want God's name on the plaque then let the Atheists go to Iraq and send all of our christian americans home where they belong.

Are they going to sue someone over that to. I think it is time for a change in our society. Frankly I would be offended if they took God out of it. I say people need to start putting pressure on their elected officials, let them fight for us. There are only a hand full of confessed Christians that take a stand on anything. Therefore the minority gets their way!

Our ForeFathers fought for our rights to practice our Religion as we should, or not to practice. The First Admenment states Freedom of Religion not Freedom FROM religion!! The thing is if it wasn't there then it's not pushing anyone's beliefs on anyone. Religion should be a choice a person makes, since it doesn't matter on who's right or not. There is no reason to stress "God's" role in protecting the state. I can say I'm proud I live in a country where we have a choice in religion.

If these idiots win, then I hope the judge gives the money to the homeless shelters and food banks of this nation instead of giving it to this group to tying up the court system more. That's what these judges need to start doing with all such stupid lawsuits, start giving the money to organizations that help the poor & perhaps these lawyers will get sick & tired of wasting their time & spending their money on such nonsense! Why are they trying to remove God from something when they don't believe He exists in the first place. Sounds like a contradiction to me, either they believe in God (if they do, then they are not atheists)or they dont'. How can they remove God who doesn't exists to them? Therefore the judge should throw out the suit based on that! The atheists are not who they say they are...someone who doesn't believe in God! IF HE DOESN'T EXIST, THEN IT SHOULDN'T BOTHER THEM. My guess is they are not true atheists because it does bother them that God exists!

This country was NOT founded on religious beliefs. God is mentioned in the Declaration of Independence, NOT our Constitution. The Constitution (the document our government derives from, mind you) specifically forbids a state supported religion. It guarantees separation of church and state. Therefore, for our Homeland Security to cite God is unconstitutional. That is why they pursue this. To make a point though, if you want God included in your government, are you willing to place one particular denomination in charge? Have our govt. run only by say, Orthodox Jews (Good for the budget!)? The Amish? How about only Jehovah's Witnesses? It's this kind of quandary that our Founding Fathers sought to prevent. Keep God in your private lives all you want. Shout His name in public if you want. Just keep Him out of our government unless all are willing to agree to which interpretation you want to use, Theist and Atheist alike.

Posted by: Me Location: Lexington on Dec 3, 2008 at 01:29 AM
This country was not founded by religion. The Founding Fathers of the United States are the political leaders who signed the Declaration of Independence or otherwise participated in the American Revolution as leaders of the Patriots, or who participated in drafting the United States Constitution eleven years later. During the American Revolutionary War, the Founders were opposed by the Loyalists who supported the British monarchy and opposed independence. Some of the more prominent Founding Fathers were anti-clerical or vocal about their opposition to organized religion. This country was founded because people were tried of the British Rulers. Use Wikipedia and read a little. There is the First Amendment" Separate God from State"

If you want the almighty dollar so much, get a real job and earn it the old fashon way. The time has come in our Country and State for this type lawsuit to end, and what better time to stop it than here and now in our KENTUCKY? If you hate the word GOD and JESUS CHRIST as much as you say you do perhap's you would feel more at home in another Country. I have heard that GOD is not welcome in some Mideast Countrie's. Posted by: Roger Location: Eastern Ky on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:54 PM
If they dont believe in God then what's the big deal? God is nothing to them then they're suit is for "nothing"! Dummies!

Posted by: Roger Location: Hazard on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:54 PM
Why are atheist so intimidated and afraid of GOD being in our lives? If they didn't know and believe there was a GOD they wouldn't care. They know there is a GOD but they just can't believe there is someone more intelligent than they are.

Posted by: Sherri Location: KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:50 PM
APPARENTLY THIS PEOPLE HAVE NO CLUE WHO "GOD" REALLY IS. THESE PEOPLE NEED TO FIND SOMETHING TO OCCUPY THERE TIME. I HAVE YET SEEN WHERE CHRISTIANS ARE GOING TO SUE AN ATHEIST OVER WHAT THEY BELIEVE, WE'RE JUST TO BUSY PRAYING FOR PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND YOU RIDE ON OUR COAT TAILS BECAUSE OF OUR PRAYERS YOU'RE SAFE AND SOUND. DON'T WORRY WE'LL STILL PRAY FOR YOU BECAUSE MY "GOD" SAYS WE NEED TO PRAY FOR ONE ANOTHER. INSTEAD OF LOOKING FOR THINGS THAT HURT YOUR FEELINGS OR YOU DON'T WANT TO READ AND YOU HAVE A CLUE ON HOW TO FIX IT I'M SURE EVERYONE WOULD LOVE TO HEAR ABOUT IT. MAYBE IF YOU WERE AROUND WHEN OUR FOREFATHERS CAME TO THIS COUNTRY YOU COULD HAVE HAD A SAY SO. JUST SO HAPPENS THEY TRUSTED IN GOD JUST AS WE CHRISTIANS DO TODAY. SEEMS TO ME THERE IS ENOUGH FOR YOU TO BE AWARE OF IN THIS WORLD WITHOUT THIS NONSENSE. DON'T BE OVERLY CONCERNED WHEN I TELL YOU I'LL CONTINUE TO PRAY FOR YOU SO YOU CAN KEEP RIDING MY COAT TAIL. GOD BLESS YOU, IN GOD I WILL TRUST

well i think we need more of god in school and our public places god is so amazing

Posted by: Mick Location: Independence on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:46 PM
Well this is about as stupid as the Gay man a few months ago wanting to sue the printers of the bible because it spoke against homosexuality! One day EVERY knee will bow and every tongue WILL confess that Jesus Christ IS Lord! That includes all fool's, oh by the way Jesus said the "fool' saith in his heart "there is no God"! Athiest's are fool's and so are the stupid money hungry lawyer's who have the nerve to represent them! Here are some wise word's from the greatest president America ever had, Ronald Reagan...."When we are no longer one nation under God, we'll be a nation who's going under" Fight against this director Thomas Preston! You have our support!

Posted by: good on Dec 2, 2008 at 09:07 PM
this is not what's wrong with our country, it is what is being done that is right. best thing ever was separation of church and state, which should mean that church in not to be involved in government, but somehow it has been and should not be. let's fix it!

i am just as offended and feel my rights as a us citizen don't matter when they take God out of everything that i believe in. if these so called atheists don't like to see the word God written somewhere don't read it. it should be that Majority rules !!!! Why is it we can't sue like they can???? Something is definetly wrong with this country.

Posted by: Joe Location: Louisa on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:43 PM
I knew this would be the #1 most commented story in WKYT history, and sure enough. Don't forget that religion is the reason why we have a Homeland Security Department in the first place. Do what you want to do in your private home, church, synagogue, or mosque....but leave the general public alone. All you bible thumpers give it a rest pulleaze!

Posted by: Mark Location: Danville on Dec 2, 2008 at 08:00 PM
I assume that all of you in favor of this law and this plaque would also be fine with a four armed elephant headed god statue sitting out front of the office? What about a big statue of Buddha or an upside down Pentagram? Would those things be okay too? You realize that the government cannot discriminate and that the United States Military must recognize Satanism as a religion. You know there are pentagrams on tombstones in Arlington National Cemetery? So let's let all of the religions in and every government building will look like a multicultural shrine to all things considered divine.

why dont we sue to get god back into everything after all he was the one that made everything

Posted by: judith Location: lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 07:26 PM
If they really don't think that God exists, why all the uproar?Do they refuse holiday pay? Do they insist on working on all our holidays? Just how does that work? Do they give back holiday gifts or bonuses?

Posted by: Keith Location: Hazard on Dec 2, 2008 at 07:00 PM
Athiests can't take GOD out of anything. GOD will ALWAYS be in control and there's nothing they can do about it.

Posted by: Anonymous on Dec 2, 2008 at 06:46 PM
Can you say MONEY, MONEY, MONEY? Thats what this is all about. They don't believe in God so it should just be another word three letter to them. Can we sue them for not believing in God?

Posted by: steve on Dec 2, 2008 at 06:45 PM
Theirs five of these nuts and a million church people and watch a liberal judge file in their behalf.

Posted by: Bonnie Location: Jackson KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:58 PM
Well why don't all of these people who don't believe shut up or better yet buy an island somewhere and live together. I'm a proud United States citizen and Love my Old Kentucky Home. I think I will file a law suit about my rights being violated by the athiest of the USA pushing thier belives on me. Then your sorry behinds can get a job and support me.This nations was built upon Christian values if you don't like it leave. thats why our forefathers came over her to start with. I for ONE am sick of people like this telling me what can be put on a wall and what it can say. There are men and women dying each day so your kind can walk the streets and be FREE. Your kind makes me sick. Somebody find me a lawyer and I will sue them for pushing thier beliefs down my NECK. IN GOD WE TRUST. If you don't like you can go to $%&&.

Posted by: J Location: Southern KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:51 PM
When are the people going to realize if they don't have God they don't have anything. He gave us this great nation and all the abundance just waiting to unfold. Now look at America today. Those who want God out of the country need to leave it and let us God-fearing believing people alone. With God all things are possible. Without God as this nation is today things will only get worse. I"m proud to say I love God.

this is what is wrong with this country right now god has been removed from it

Posted by: ****** Location: KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:18 PM
It's people like the "American Atheists Inc" that this country and the entire world for that matter, is so messed up.

Posted by: Motley Location: Louisa, KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:16 PM
I was actually considering filing suit myself. I'm glad American Atheists got to it before I did, they'll handle it better than I could.

Posted by: Diana Location: Knoxville, TN on Dec 2, 2008 at 05:04 PM
I pray for these people, don't people understand that's why the US is in such a bad way nowadays, they've took GOD out of just about everything....Wake up AMERICA!!!!!

Posted by: Cassandra Location: Kentucky on Dec 2, 2008 at 04:59 PM
OMG!!! YES..that means OH MY GOD!! Give me a break!! This country is going downhill fast!!!

Posted by: Blessed Location: Mt. Sterling on Dec 2, 2008 at 04:35 PM
This is what is wrong with our country!!! Enough said, our country is founded on God and Atheists keep on and keep on until they kick God out of everything. Right now in Washington D.C. a group has paid for anti God ads on buses. What is going on here! All I know is that one day every eye will see and every knee shall bow and declare that Jesus is Lord of Lords and King of Kings.

Posted by: Anonymous Location: Morehead on Dec 2, 2008 at 03:28 PM
Maybe we should also put a clause in it to rid the state of atheists!!!!! But I am sure they will get their way, but only on earth not in heaven.

Posted by: So Lame Location: Good old KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 03:24 PM
Such a suit should not even be allowed to be filed. That's just obtuse. Instead of seeking financial damage they need to seek mental help along with their attorney; who's only out for the MONEY. MONEY the root of all evil.

Posted by: g Location: carlisle on Dec 2, 2008 at 03:22 PM
I cannot believe that a small group of atheist try to control the gov by taking god out of the state home land securty.if you unbelievers don't like the way the gov is run then keep your damm mouth shut.

Posted by: Lois Location: KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 03:07 PM
What is the problem since as an atheist you don't believe in God, then whats to sue about???? I'm confused!

Posted by: D Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 02:28 PM
Does anyone want to derive a law suit against the atheists with me? I am sure we can come up with something because they sue for everything and somehow forget that this country was founded for religous freedom not religous NADA!!

Posted by: Linda Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 02:22 PM
Get a life! This is the most important thing this group has to be concerned with? Perhaps Attorney Kagan needs to travel outside his little social circle to see egregiously and breathtakingly unconstitutional actions!

Posted by: ASHLEY Location: CUMBERLAND on Dec 2, 2008 at 02:02 PM
STUPID, STUPID, JUST PLAIN STUPID. WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING....HONESTLY.

Posted by: fnord Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:57 PM
Thank God for this lawsuit...God hasn't seemed to help too much with homeland security so I think we should look to other places for our protection.

Posted by: Becky Location: Berea on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:43 PM
I think that if it wasn't for God we would be in a lot worse shape than we are now.

Posted by: Gayle Location: Aurora, CO on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:26 PM
Everybody has their beliefs BUT I'm getting sick and tired hearing from Atheists. Something like this should be where the people get to vote. I bet if that would happen God would be kept, pledge of allegiance, etc....

Posted by: Brenda Location: Eastern KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:25 PM
Sounds like we need to sue the American Atheists group for trying to take away our right to see and read God's name in public. If they don't want to read his name then let them close their eyes even tighter than what they are now. Thank you God for being in my life.

Posted by: Rachel on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:21 PM
This is so stupid. Why is it not unconstitutional for them to ask the people that believe in God and want Him in their lives to take God out? Why on Earth did it take them almost 3 years to think of this lawsuit? Let it be.

Posted by: Gale Location: KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:17 PM
Let's take all these atheists and send them to Iraq and other war areas and see who they call on to get them home safe.

Posted by: S Location: Eastern Kentucky on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:13 PM
What beliefs were this country founded on? If you don't like it, leave.

Posted by: Dan Hardin Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 01:05 PM
When is someone going to stand up for us and what's right. These guys need to get a life.

Posted by: maggie Location: Versailles on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:55 PM
Why does it matter to them? Personally I believe in God and believe with all my heart that he is the only one who can protect us. If they don't believe then, they just don't,and to them they are just words, so what does it hurt?I will pray for these people. How could there be any financial damages? Who would receive the money and for what purpose?

Posted by: Lori Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:52 PM
So the Atheists are offended by God being in the Homeland Security plaque eh? You know what? I will be offended if it is NOT in there. 95% of American's are NOT offended by this so why should we change it for the 5% that are? That is so ignorant. If they don't like it. Don't read it and may the good Lord have mercy on their souls.

Posted by: JAKE Location: KY on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:51 PM
THIS IS SO STUPID!!!!

Posted by: Carol Location: Versailles on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:41 PM
Lets keep taking GOD out of everything and see where the world ends up. The world is already on a self destruction because we are a sue happy world. Our fore fathers faught for their rights and this is the way it should stay regardless of your beliefs.

Posted by: Me Location: Here on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:35 PM
This group is owed absolutely NOTHING in damages and fees - nothing should be paid to these money-hungry people simply because they are offended by a clause they've read. Personally, I'd be ashamed to say I've been offended by some words on a paper and would rather live my life out and take a stand for what I believe in rather than make a huge mistake of going to court over something that won't change anybody else's mind, but only make me look like a money-grubbing and selfish person.

Posted by: Vickie Location: Lexington on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:34 PM
Let me see, we've tossed God out of things like school where did that get us? Lets just keep tossing Him out.. but when things get bad we will holler at Him for help right?

Posted by: just wondering on Dec 2, 2008 at 12:29 PM
Why can't they sue and get something done like that, but people who want God included can't. Where is the justice.
