MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - Ventrell Jenkins scooped up a fumble and barreled his 285-pound frame 56 yards for the go-ahead touchdown, helping Kentucky win a program-best third straight bowl game with a 25-19 victory over East Carolina on Friday in the Liberty Bowl.

Kentucky (7-6) never led until Myron Pryor forced a fumble with under 5 minutes left while East Carolina (9-5) was driving. In the mad scramble for the loose ball, Jenkins came up with it and rumbled down the right sideline untouched.

Now, coach Rich Brooks has accomplished something even the legendary Bear Bryant couldn't at Kentucky: end three straight postseasons with a win. The Wildcats won the last two Music City Bowls behind former quarterback Andre Woodson.

East Carolina failed in its attempt to win a third game this season against a BCS conference team. It had already defeated West Virginia and Virginia Tech.

We will have highlights of the Liberty Bowl tonight on Mountain News Night Watch and on Sports Overtime beginning at 11pm.

it's sad when a bowl game is so watered down that they are inviting teams like UK who didn't even have a winning season to participate.

This was a great ending to another great season under coach Brooks! To finish 7-6 and win a record 3rd straight bowl game with a team that has been undermaned, undermined, and injury stricken from the begining is astonishing. All the people that were crying that UK was undeserving of a bowl game is ridiculous. Out of 113 eligible schools, 15 were 6-6 and only 6 of them made a post season bowl game. Be interesting to see out of those 6 how many won like our beloved cats did! And how bout next season when most of the starting defense will be back, locke should be back, cobb should be back, plus a big freshman quarterback that was this years Mr Football in Indiana. Not that Hartline didnt do great at QB himself, but having solid competition for a spot will do nothing but improve and motivate both of them even more, to take their game to an even higher level. Next year watch out SEC and BCS and especially Tennessee, cats will be back better than ever...this fan guarantee's it.
