Several children injured in a house fire in Martin County the weekend before Christmas returned to school Monday.

Seven year old Matt Dalton is happy to be back at school. His wounds healed fast after he suffered burns on his face, ears, and head in a house fire two weeks ago. He says it could have been worse but,

“Mamaw threw me out the window,” Matt Dalton said.

The second grader says he was asleep at the time and does not know much about the fire, but says knows his grandmother gave her life for his. Firefighters say Betty Luster died rescuing Matt and her other grandchildren.

“She did, she saved mine and Brittany's life she did,” Dalton said.

Brittany Luster is still in the Boston Shriner's hospital on life support with severe burns.

Inez Elementary teachers say students are struggling with what happened to Brittany.

They are making a card to send to her.

“We love her and we're praying for her and hoping she can come back to school,” Inez Elementary Guidance Counselor, Susan Whitt said.

Students are also donating what little money and items they have to help the family.

Matt says he misses his cousin Brittany, but misses his grandmother even more.

“Yeah, we're taking it hard. I love my mamaw and papaw up in heaven,” Dalton said.

He says he will never forget her and will always be thankful to be alive.

The family says doctors told them that Brittany Luster will survive, but she will be in the Boston hospital for several months.

I never did hear where the parents of these kids were. Does anyone know?
