Eastern Kentucky Author Has Died

An eastern Kentucky author is dead.
The Lexington Herald reports Verna Mae Slone died Monday about six months after a fall.
Slone was also a quilter, doll maker and the mother of five sons.
She wrote six books, the best known of which was her first called "What My Heart Wants To Tell."
She lived almost all her life in the Knott County community of Pippa Passes.
For many years, she also wrote a column in the Troublesome Creek Times.
Verna Mae Slone was 94.

verna mae slone was my grandmother.and i was so very proud of all the books she wrote,all the doll and quilts that she had made,but most of all the love granny had for her family and friends. and the love she had for jesus and how she taught us about him. my dad (willie v. slone)her son,my sister,and i took care of my granny for the last eleven months of her life,granny had a fall in september and she had not got along good since then but i don't believe that was what cause her death.the doctor had exray her and she had no broken bones.the day granny fell was on my daddy's birthday it was early in the day,how he done it i don't know but he sat upon the bed reach down and pick her up like you would a baby and placed her back onto her bed.but that evening we had dad a birthday party and granny was wheeled in her chair to the outside were the party took place for about three hours were she laugh,joke and was so happy.the next day she did'nt feel to well. she died because it was her time to

GRANNY you was the best granny in the world..I was so glad i got to take care of you the last year of your life,but i wish you was here with me granny i can just hear you say to me i am so lonesome i just want to die your prayer came true you are now in heaven with jesus and papa,and you would say I cant get my breath but now all that is gone you dont smother nomore i would always tell you I love you granny and you would always say not as much as i do you...you would say i love you before you was born...God bless the day i get to meet you,just sleep on granny it wont be long i will be with you,the ole devil will never bother you nomore from your broken hearted grand daughter regina I LOVE YOU GRANNY....

for those who did not know her or got to meet her they dont know who wonderful she really was. she was more then a writer, quilt designer, and quilt maker, but also a inspiration and a joy to be around. granny will be missed by all who knew her. god bless
