Police are searching for a thief who pulled a knife during a robbery in Johnson County.

Paintsville police officers were called to Chevron at U.S. 460 and Ky. 40 West just after 5:00 A.M. Sunday.

Captain Jason Arms combs over surveillance video in hopes of identifying this man. But this robbery investigation is a little different.

"Typically they'll pull in, get out of the vehicle, run in the store and get what they need or want and get right back out," said Arms.

But that's not what happened. Police say the thief wandered around the store for about 20 minutes, and even made small talk with the clerk before walking behind the counter and pulling a knife. Luckily, she was not hurt.

"The clerk and he engaged in conversation. Small talk, stating he had missed a ride for work and was waiting on someone else to pick him up there and take him to work," added Arms.

It just so happens a state highway worker was putting salt down on the roads and saw a man meeting the suspect description get into a red Ford pickup parked on 460.

Now police are hoping someone recognizes him and calls them with information. They say you don't have to give them your name.

"We're just interested in the information. We're not really concerned with the name, just the information," said Arms.

Meanwhile, police are working to enhance the video to get a good look at the man's face.

Police say the man got into a newer model red Ford pick-up with a graphic on the rear windshield.

RICHARD Location: WINCHESTER: Do you think SHOUTING it (all CAP letters is shouting) will make it more believable? Whose sipping what? Telling yourself things will get better with Obama doesn't make it true. Time will tell. At least this country was safe with President Bush. Now Obama wants to do away with Gitmo, and where are all those terrorists and associates going to be sent? Kissing their behinds is not going to make them love us. They hate us and want all Americans dead - we are all infidels to them! I hate nobody, including Obama. I just don't believe in his ideas. I'm more realistic.

"Bush days are making folks do some crazy things." LOL! As if there were NEVER any burglaries or attempts of before Bush became president? Go ahead, give the criminals an excuse if you want to. How many jurors do you think would buy that one? Would you if it were your home robbed? Would you be content to say, "It's okay, I'm not going to blame him, he's just another victim of "Bush days", let him off?" Terrorists would just love you! Most of the criminals here are drug addicts , needing money for their drugs. How is that the president's fault? He didn't make using street drugs legal. He didn't make these people use drugs, or even encourage their use. How is it his fault? Do you think these problems are going to magically disappear after 4 years of democratic rule? (If we last that long) I wish I could be that optimistic, and I hope I'm wrong, but I believe the "Bush days" are going to be know as the "good ole Bush days" before the next 4 years are over.

Unusual, yes. "Bizarre"? Not even close. A bit of hyperbole here, wouldn't you say?
