It was not snow or ice that caused problems in Harlan County, it was wind.

It was so bad, it ripped the roof right off a trailer in the Dayhoit community just after midnight.

Edna and Robert Carmical were not injured, but spent Wednesday trying to salvage their belongings.

“It started out loud and just got louder. If it started out at 100 mph, it sounded like it got to 200 mph within seconds,” Robert Carmical said.

The Carmicals are staying at a local motel, but are seeking help from the Red Cross, as well as the public.

Last year around this time I had around 2000.00 in damages done from the wind storm. It picked the shingles up from the back of the house and blew them over to the front side. Very scary indeed. After this happened I ended up replacing the roof with a metal roof but still I can't stand hearing that wind howling like that. I really hope they have homeowners insurance.

I live outside of Pineville and that same night the wind was so bad I thought it was going to tear the roof off my house, I measured it to be about 4:30 - 5:00 AM and at least 70 MPH, Was it coming a tornado?
