One week after a special report on Appalachia created a national stir, the ABC program 20/20 is returning to eastern Kentucky.
Friday's episode is expected to explore solutions to the region's problems and give updates on the people featured last week.
Many people complained about the program saying it showed the usual stereotypical views.
One UK professor told the Herald Leader that the show generated more discussion about the region than anything in the last three decades.
It was the highest rated prime time program Friday night.

Yes I saw the program, but they didn't show the whole story. You see we the people of eastern Ky was very offended by what they showed. Tell me someone if you know why the ---- don't they show the poorest of the poor that live in Calif, New York, Chicago. Hey I lived in Michigan for 30 years and they had little shannies that was rotting to the ground, dirty snaggled toothed childern and living on welfare, but you don't hear about that. It makes a pity story if it is Ky. Why didn't you show those Multimillion dollar homes in Ky. Ms Diane Sawyers has gotten above her raising, by the way she is from Ky you know. Get it right Diane every state in the US has it's poor. The good Lord would want you to do something positive, not always negative. Have you ever crossed over into Va, W Va, Tenn to see how they live? no you're from here and the tv stations pay you big bucks to degrade us. Get a life know-it all.

I think that there is more people that abuses the gov. system. There are alot of people tht are flat out lazy and try to rely on gov. funds. My husband got hurt on a job and left us in a hard place. I had to get help for the gov. and it wasnt easy. I had to volunteer or go to school. I dont see why anyone would go volunteer when they can go out and get paid a heck of lot better than Welfare.I know I didnt even get enough to pay my main bills, like electric, water, insurance and so on, not including the extras. So Welfare is not all tht great and really not all that helpful.YOu have to take part as if you were holding down a full time job.So why not get paid for it.Quit being lazy and get a job.I also dont agree with these people that can recieve a check just because the have a drinking problem. It truely is sad what people will settle for. I am glad that I am able to get out and work and support my family. The gov. doesnt help no where near what we pay into it.

I was born and raised in EKY I now live in central KY. I just want to say that I see the same things on the back roads in Danville! There are drug problems all over the state! these people dont want help! Its sad but true that these children are suffering because parents dont want to get help. Diane, next time I think you can leave out the subtitles!
