Police are searching for a robber in Pike County after someone held-up the Meta Double Kwik on Sunday.

It is the second time a robber hit the Meta Double Kwik in three months, and police say it is the eighth robbery in Pike County in the last three months.

Police say none of the robberies are connected, but now they are asking people to take precautions.

Castle's Jewelry owner Darrell Pugh is making changes.

His store went 19 years with no robberies, but that all changed this month when he says a man robbed the store at gunpoint.

“In the back of your mind, you suspect it could happen any time, but until it happens, you just can't believe it happened to you,” Darrell Pugh said.

He's not alone. State Police are working eight robberies in Pike County, all within three months.

The latest happened Sunday at the Meta Double Kwik, the second time the store was hit.

No arrests for either.

Police are also searching for suspects in robberies at Big Creek Pizza in Sidney, and two home invasions.

Arrests were made in robberies at Phelps Jo Mart, Judy's Tanning in Regina, and Castle's Jewelry.

“We've been more suspicious since that happened,” Pugh said.

Police do not think the robberies are connected and say the motives are either drugs or the economy.

Because of that, they believe there could be more robberies, so they are asking people to take precautions.

“Anyone who comes in under the pretense of committing an armed robbery has to be considered dangerous and that's why we say, help them rob the establishment and get them out of there,” Mike Goble, KSP, said.

Police say always have at least two employees on duty and call police if you see someone suspicious.

Officials say keeping surveillance video will help catch suspects.

Police say do not risk your life, give the robbers what they want and then let police search for them.

If you have any information on any of the robberies, you can call state police.

I'm in total agreement with your comment Anonymous. It is the same story every time you sit down to watch the evening news or read the newspaper. A local business has been robbed. There is something wrong with this picture. We are bombarded with police enforcement on 119 and 23. There are actually people out there trying to make an honest living. There is not a day that goes by on my way to and from work that the police enforcement hasn't got a coal truck or a commercial vehicle pulled. Put our tax dollars to work on fighting some real crime. We will continue to have this problem until it is addressed. We do not live in Mayberry, we actually live in a community where criminals know that nothing is going to be done. You can travel anywhere else in surrounding states and never be bothered with police enforcement until you get in Pike County. People committing these crimes need to be aware that our police force is focused on the real problems that we face in this community.FED UP

I would have to agree with the comment made by Anonymous. There is something wrong with this picture. Every time I watch the evening news or read a newspaper, it is the same old story. If we had our police force focusing on the core of the problem in this area, I feel we would certainly see a decrease of some of these robberies. It's pathetic when you get on 119 and 23 we are bombarded by police enforcement.
