The wind and warm conditions are fueling forest fires around the region.

Forest rangers say they battled dozens of fires and some look like they were deliberately set.

Forest rangers say at least one fire in Floyd County looks like arson, saying it was set in four different places.

Other fires look like debris fires out of control and that has some people paying up to put them out.

Forest Rangers say as the temperature heats up, so do the forest fires.

About a dozen fires are burning in the Big Sandy Region, and Rangers say the wind is fueling the flames.

“Makes it more difficult to control,” Adam McGuire said.

Forestry Firefighters brought in a dozer to contain a fire in Teaberry along an ATV trail near Red Morg's Branch.

Rangers say the fire appears to be arson, saying it looks like an ATV rider set it in four different places.

Rangers are searching for the culprit who could face criminal charges, but Foresters say everyone pays for arson.

“It takes a lot of resources to fight these fires and taxpayer dollars,” McGuire said.

Rangers say others are losing money after starting debris fires.

“If it gets out, they are going to pay,” Akers said.

Rangers say those who start debris fires that cause forest fires are responsible for the costs to put it out. Many are paying at least 500 dollars.

Rangers say all the fires right now are under control, but worry if the number of fires increases, then it will be harder to fight.

Burning is allowed after six each night, but right now they do not recommend it because of the windy weather.

If you know someone set a forest fire, you can call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-27-ARSON.
