CORYDON, Ky. (AP) - A National Weather Service team was assessing damage in two western Kentucky cities to determine whether tornadoes touched down in both Union and Henderson counties.

In Corydon in Henderson County, preliminary reports show an EF3 tornado may have touched down at 4:45 p.m. CDT Saturday with a peak
wind of 140 mph. An EF3 tornado has the potential to cause severe damage, but only two injuries and no fatalities were reported, the weather service said Sunday.

The weather service said six homes were destroyed and 10 others sustained major damage. Sixty homes and buildings had minor damage, according to the report.

Preliminary data from Saturday's severe storms also showed an EF1 tornado - which would cause moderate damage - with a peak wind of 90 mph may have touched down near Morganfield. The weather service report says camper trailers were overturned, trees were down and a farm shed lost its roof.

The Gleaner reported the high winds in Corydon collapsed brick and cement buildngs, left many homes without their roofs, wrapped mobile homes around trees, destroyed barns, stripped off siding, snapped utility poles and uprooted trees.

Corydon Civil Defense Chief Bryan Coghill said the storm left an oil well leaking into a creek. He said members of the civil defense were conducting door-to-door checks to ensure everyone was safe.

Power was out to much of Corydon and a shelter had been set up at a former school.
