Hundreds more coal miners are out of a job after Appalachian Fuels Lays off employees in Pike County.

A letter sent to employees said the layoffs are due to weak market conditions.

No one from the Appalachian Fuels office in Ashland has returned our calls yet, but the letter says the layoffs are temporary.

We caught up with two of the workers now struggling to make ends meet.

Coal Miners Danny Coleman and James McKinley Akers went to work at Appalachian Fuels as normal over the weekend but when they got there, they got a letter telling them they no longer had a job, effective immediately.

“Just went in, all the equipment was packed up. That was it. Just didn't see it coming to me,” James McKinley Akers said.

The letter says the layoffs are due to weak market conditions.

Now the two men are joining the other estimated couple of hundred laid off Appalachian Fuels employees in the Pike County unemployment line.

“It's tough. You have to try and sign up on everything and try to get everything you can get. A person don't want to, but you have to. There just aren't any other jobs around right now,” Danny Coleman said.

Coleman and his wife have two young children they are worried about, “It's going to be rough, especially when you're used to, you know, the income,” said Coleman.

Akers and his wife are also struggling to make ends meet.

The notice says the layoffs are temporary and Appalachian Fuels managers hope to call them back to work when the market improves.

Now they are waiting to see.

The layoff notice says Appalachian Fuels hopes to call them back to work in a few months, but they cannot give a time frame.

The tired old Demorat mantra, "Bush's Fault". Nah, that dog won't hunt. You jerks blamed Bush from Day One for everything wrong that happened, from a supposedly "bad economy" to the fact that your crap stunk. Well, turnabout is fair play, and two can play that game. As of Jan 20th, 2009, this is all on Obama now. He's the one who said he'd bankrupt you if you wanted to build a coal-fired power plant. Bush never said anything like that.

Heather - can you explain the failed economic policies of the Bush Administration? If any of you "economists" will do a little research - there was Six-Years of economic growth under the Bush administration - the coinciding with the Dems taking over the hill, with the worst congress ever, drew the downfall of the economy. Franklin Raines, Barney Frank, Pelosi, Dodd, Reid, etc. enforced ninja loans and the equate - when in 9/2008 it was deemed by polls that BHO would win the election, the market crashed due to a large sell off in fear of capital gains taxes, as well as higher taxes for consumers gave the market instability - it continued up until and even today. As far as Fox news goes - what is it with you people? If someone isn't being critical of BHO you right away believe that people are being brain-washed? Look in the mirror, and get away from MSNBC and watch a news channel, FOX, that does show BOTH sides of an argument. Wait - that may be too academic for you!

Wait - let me get this straight. The miners didn't see this coming? Hmmm - Obama, who was supported by the Coal Miners and their union, stated during the election that he was going to tax the hell of the coal industry - and you guys still supported him. Now there are those of you who will blame (Tommy from Clay Cty) Bush and senators from the state who have no power any longer because Kool-Aid drinkers bought into this? HA - you ain't seen nothing yet - good choice in presidential candidates - whoa! Hey Tommy - how's your job with ACORN doing?
