A joint investigation by the Letcher County Sheriff's Office, the Kentucky State Police Drug Enforcement Special Investigation East, the HIDTA Drug Task Force and the Federal Bureau of Investigations has resulted in the arrest of several Letcher County residents as well as two subjects now living in Detroit, Michigan.

The arrests conclude a two-year investigation into the interstate trafficking of OxyContin into Letcher, Knott, Perry and Pike counties.

The investigation revealed that this drug trafficking organization was responsible for tens of thousands of OxyContin pills being delivered into southeast Kentucky.

The investigation is continuing with more arrests expected. The following subjects arrested were:

1. Larry Wayne Sergent Age: 52 of Flatgap, KY. in Letcher County. The charges include Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone, Conspiracy to Launder Money and Distribution of Oxycodone.
2. Joseph A. Tucker Age: 33 of Warren, Michigan. The charges include Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone and Conspiracy to Launder Money.
3. Anna Bentley Age: 22 of Whitesburg, KY in Letcher County. The charges include Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone, Conspiracy to Launder Money and Distribution of Oxycodone.
4. Gary Blackburn Age: 58 of Warren, Michigan. The charges include Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone and Possession with intent to Distribute Oxycodone.
5. Thurman Potter Age: 34 of Whitesburg, KY in Letcher County. The charges include Conspiracy to Distribute Oxycodone.

Sheriff Danny Webb has stated that these types of investigations take a lot of time to put together, but through the hard work of the Kentucky State Police, the HIDTA Drug Task Force, the FBI and his agency a major impact against the war on drugs has been made in Letcher County.

Investigations of this magnitude will continue in this area and we are glad that our agency can contribute and be a part of it.

A special thanks should be given to all agencies involved for taking the time and manpower to see a case like this have a successful ending.

i think they should worry about the bigger problems in socity. the people are going to by drugs still them do them take them whatever it takes they should worry about the addicts as long as there are addicts there will be dealers. and becides the point they dont give a care about the murders and the child rapest or the sex offenders like they care about the drug dealer. they spend life in preasons for other people hurting their selfs. but the people that are hurting other people are getting out with a slap on the wrist. thats what people should think about.when people dodrugs they do it them selves, peopledont make them.

Some of the answers are 1. Taking Oxcontin(?) off the market, having it administered by duly qualified persons. 2. Stop the bullcrap that marijuanna is a 'gateway drug'. 3. Involve Corrections and Jail officials, (they may have all kinds of intelligence) Read this!!http://www.usdoj.gov/criminal/gangunit/about/prisongangs.html
