IRS officials say they are granting disaster relief to those affected by the Mother's Day Weekend floods.

Lois O'Neal has owned Campbell's Grocery and Deli since 1984 and says this is her second time dealing with flood damage.

"We had lost some merchandise and then we've had some structural problems with the sinking of the foundation a little bit," said O'Neal.

She, along with other business owners and people living in Garrett say they are happy to hear that they may qualify for disaster relief from the IRS.

"That would be very helpful in trying to get things back and going, you know, so you can replace the merchandise you lost," she said.

The IRS is giving flood victims until July 2nd to file most tax returns or make tax payments that have an extended due date occurring on or past May 3rd.

"I'm excited of the possibilities of what can happen here with even the groups such as the IRS," said Floyd County Judge Executive R.D. 'Doc' Marshall.

Marshall says in times like these any extra help is welcomed.

"In this case they're coming for you. They're going to have and offer assistance to help you," said Marshall.

That is something Earl Bays says he will gladly take.

"There's a lot of people that really had to spend money that they hadn't counted on spending. We lost our car and I wasn't counted on going out and hunting another car," said Bays.

He says hopefully something as little as a deadline extension will go a long way.

If you have flood damage and receive a penalty notice from the IRS, you should call the IRS to avoid or reduce any interest or penalties.

It's great that the IRS has come into help our area, but if we had the creeks dredged we may not have all of the flooding and we would need less assistance. Our creeks and streams are full from all of the mining, etc.

Most of the folks living around me are to lazy to work therefore they are on the draw and the IRS can't help people that won't work.
