A pair of 10-year-olds from Winchester spent the first day of their summer vacation trying to make life a little easier for young flood victims in Breathitt County.

We followed along on their special delivery.

Haley Clay wants to give her ballerina backpack to another little girl who might not have one anymore.

Haley says, "When theirs got washed away, I'm pretty sure it had their books in it, and they couldn't get them back now."

Haley and classmate Tamara Israel are helping deliver a truckload of toys, clothes, and supplies from students at Fannie Bush Elementary. From here, the Junior Red Cross will distribute the goodies.

Tamara says, "I wanted to help some children out and make them feel like they were home again."

Tamara and Haley say a Santa Claus or a Mister Potato Head can go a long way to cheering up kids who lost everything.

Haley says, "I hope it helps them know that there's hope to rebuilding their lives."

Red Cross volunteers are touched by how much these children were willing to give up.

Rose Wolfe with the Mid-East Kentucky Chapter of the Red Cross says, "We've got grown-ups sitting around that wouldn't even dream of doing this project, and these girls did."

But the girls don't take much credit. They say they're lucky to have so much, and can't imagine what other children are going through.

Haley says, "I want them to feel like there's nothing in the world that could make them happier, just knowing that all this stuff came from somebody who cares."

If nothing else, they hope it brings a smile.

The girls also took part in a cookout for flood victims at the Jackson Fire Department, put on by Ferrell Gas Company out of Winchester.

Haley is my daughter, and I couldn't be more proud... I knew she had a big heart, but to step out and take the initiative speaks of love for others that was taught by Christ... thank you, my princess, for being there for those in need... I love you...
