The down economy has some home and small business owners in a pinch, and that was the focus of an expo held today in Floyd County.

Some businesses say they are doing all they can to help stay in the black with their finances, but it's tough in today's economy.

"It's really hard," says Jan Wells.

a home owned business Expo held Wednesday at the Floyd County Chamber Of Commerce's Vistor's Bureau helped owners get more exposure and possibly get more clients.

Floyd Co. Chamber of Commerce Director Mandy Stumbo says ,"Individuals in the community can create their own source of revenue and find the vehicle to create their own stimulus plan in today's economy."

Stumbo says the economy has smaller business owners turning over every rock.

"There is so many people in today's economy, that are looking for extra money. With the prices and rates and things that are constantly changing. extra income is always needed."

One home based business owner says she has not seen a dip in her finances because she provides flexibility with her clients.

"I work it," Wanda Conn says. "I work with my people. If they can't pay for it right at the time, i try to work with them until they can pay for it.

Wells, who owns the Country at Heart restaurant in Prestonsburg says they had to change their menu because of the sluggish economy and has seen an increase in business.

We found that, that has helped us as far as i think that you have to do something unique," Wells says. "Something really different than what no other people are doing."

Wells says people in small communities like Prestonsburg have an appreciation for small businesses and do what they can to help.

"I know most people that come in here like the casual, kind of a homey feeling environment," Wells says.
