Fewer Americans are expected to hit the road to celebrate Independence Day because of the economy.

Police across Kentucky are out in force this weekend, making sure those who are on the roads are safe.

AAA expects there will be less people traveling this 4th of July, but by the looks of I-75 in London, you wouldn't know it.

“I've noticed quite a few. Traffic seems to be flowing,” John Brown said.

John Brown is staying close, taking a ride to Cumberland Falls.

He says he's constantly watching out for the other drivers on the road.

“Seems like people are keeping an eye open more often now. They sometimes get distracted and that's what we watch for. They're easy to spot,” Brown said.

It's clear to many drivers, police are keeping a close eye.

“Seen about 10 - 12 people stopped since Cincy. There are a lot of unmarked cars, so watch out!” Steve Mower said.

Kentucky State Police are increasing patrols for the "Over the limit, under arrest" nationwide campaign.

The economy, it's always the economy that's blamed...can't we just impeach that guy and start living the good life again! And by the way, if there's so many less of us able to afford a vacation why do we need to be paying over time to an excessive police patrol, what are they putting tickets on, terrapins? However, I have noticed that the numer of terrapins have declined drastically over the past year or so, we either are running out of terrapins or there are fewer motorist to smash them one!
