Still no arrests have been made after a Save A Lot grocery store in Harlan County was robbed last night, just as they were closing. People in Evarts are concerned this type of crime happened in their community. They are not used to hearing about crime in their town.
Donna Middleton, who lives in Evarts, says, "It's always been relatively a safe community." The Save A Lot robbery Thursday night caught them off guard. "I hope everything turns out okay, and I hope they do catch the people that did it."
Evarts police are investigating. They say the suspect came into the store at closing time. Evarts Police Department Assistant Chief Michael Lunsford says, "An unknown male came in through the front door after an employ had brought some of the boxes and trash out, and forced the door open and went in and held one of the employees at knife point."
The man then ran away on foot, taking several thousand dollars with him.
People in evarts say they will feel safer once he is caught.Mara Bishop, of Evarts, says, "It would be nice to know that whoever did this was behind bars, so that I wouldn't be threatened when I went out in public."
Middleton says, "I'm hoping that they'll catch whoever did it, and justice is served."
The suspect was wearing a black T-shirt, blue jeans, dirty white shoes and cream colored work gloves.
He had a blue T-shirt tied around his head.
