Paintsville City Council members have set the rules and regulations for alcohol sales in the town.

The city council drafted the ordinance and approved the first reading today.

The proposed ordinance allows restaurants, hotels, stores, and caterers to sell alcohol from six in the morning to midnight.

No Sunday sales are allowed. Other rules follow state laws.

Paintsville city councilman David Trimble says “we just want to ensure everyone through these ordinances, there will be regulations, stringent regulations, put in place and they will be enforced.”

Licenses cost anywhere from 25 to three thousand dollars.

The second reading is planned during a special called meeting Thursday night.

If passed, business owners can start applying for licenses next week.
