FEMA set to leave Recovery Centers

People affected by the may flooding can still apply for aid, but there are some changes.
The centers at Johns Creek Elementary in Pike County and the Lifeskills Center in Breathitt County will remain open through the end of this month. But the process of getting federal help for their damages from the flooding will take a little more time.
FEMA is getting ready to leave Breathitt and Pike Counties, but the SBA still has some more work to do.
Angel Morales of the SBA says "We stay normally two more weeks after FEMA departs to process all the loans, do all the closings, the paperwork, we solve other issues."
Morales works at the the LSC in Jackson, helping victims of the May flooding that forced many people out of their homes. Now that FEMA is about to leave, he's seen many people come in and file for help, and that's not surprising.
"It's part of being human, you wait until the last minute," Morales says. "That's what we do. Once FEMA advertises and puts on the news that they are leaving, that's when you see a flow of people coming in."
Ray Rastegar applied for federal help to fix his damaged home.
"It brought a lot of damages to the area, and if i get the money, i'll remodel and rebuild it back," Rastegar says.
Stacy Miller says she just wants to go back home.
"If they could help me to get my stuff fixed like my property damages so i can go back in my home to live instead of staying with others," Miller says.
The SBA will accept applications for federal disaster aid up until July 28th. Morales says that's still plenty of time.
"The best way to do it, try to find some time in your schedule, try to be here before FEMA departs so they know exactly where they are on the FEMA system," Morales says.
However, the SBA encourages victims to apply while FEMA is still here.
Morales says if people apply for aid starting monday, they will still have to contact FEMA but instead it will be by phone rather than in person.
