More than a dozen arrests in one eastern Kentucky county, all related to meth labs.

The Jackson County sheriff says he busted five labs in less than two weeks and thinks this could just be the beginning.

The sheriff says each of the fourteen people arrested face felony charges, most for manufacturing meth, a problem he says his department continues to crack down on every day.

Sheriff Tim Fee says the arrests were made in every corner of the county, "Some are repeat offenders. Over time they learn their lesson and they stop, and then there's some I don't think will ever stop."

He says one lab was within 1,000 feet of an elementary school, another was in a home with two handicapped people inside who had no idea family members constructed a meth lab beneath the house. "Last Monday night we arrested six adults and there were four little small children in the home, as well as last night at this location near the Jackson-Owsley County line which had a little three year old girl in there."

Fee says the chemicals involved in meth labs are extremely hazardous and no child should ever be exposed to them. He says, "I can not tolerate that and I will not tolerate that. There's just no sense putting a child in that kind of environment."

People across Jackson County say they are glad to see the labs destroyed. Danny Robinson says, "I couldn't be happier myself. Every time I hear another drug bust, I feel a little bit getter about our community."

Sheriff Fee says, "You've got to try to get a grip and keep it down to a low level, but you know sometimes I feel like we're beating our head against the wall."

"Hopefully it comes to a point where there's nobody left to bust. That would be, I guess, the number one goal," says Robinson.

Sheriff Fee says his department will continue to investigate other tips from the community. Sheriff Fee says tips and calls from the community are crucial in making these busts.
