Two women are dead after an accident involving a state trooper in Perry County.

It happened Tuesday afternoon near Glomawr.

The accident shut down highway 15 for hours, but it's now open again.

Police say the trooper, Detective Tim Engle, was treated and released at a hospital, but the drivers of the other two vehicles both died.

Police identified them as 52-year old Billie Combs of Happy and 54-year old Lorene Dollarhide of Whitesburg.

About 4:00 Tuesday afternoon, traffic came to a halt on a portion of Highway 15.

Police say a Buick Sedan was heading northbound toward Hazard when the driver drifted into the shoulder, overcorrected, and lost control.

The driver then went into the southbound lane, hitting a Chevy Sedan, and sending it off the road.

Both drivers died.

One of the cars also hit a state trooper's cruiser heading south.

The trooper was not seriously hurt in the accident.

Police say they haven't found any eyewitnesses.

The road may be open now, but the skid marks and orange paint will remind everyone what happened here.

Highway 15 re-opened again around 7:30 Tuesday night.

I agree that the article was poorly written. However, don't blame the media, don't kill the messenger. They have a job to do and headlines sell papers. For instance it could have said. Fatal car crash closes HWY,State trooper mildly injured.

There is an eyewitness. She was horrified and traumatized. She was driving away from town and according to her was directly behind the small car. I guess the one that was being driven by the woman from Whitesburg. She said that the dark colored buick was airborn...that the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle and that it literally sailed over the guardrail and crashed into the smaller car in front of her. She said that she stopped for a few seconds and actually shut her eyes....she thought that the buick was gonna hit her. She said that she was sort of in shock...that something (an object) flew straight over her vehicle...she drove on not even thinking and that a few seconds later called 911. She said that she had to hold her cphone with both hands just to call the 3 digits because she was shaking so badly. She went home and cried and threw up and all of that. Someone told me that the rumor was that the lady driving the buick...had a spider...land on her or bite her.
