Former UK basketball Coach Billy Gillispie has had a run-in with the law.
Gillispie was pulled over early Thursday morning in Anderson County and was then arrested for DUI. Police say he was behind the wheel of his 2009 white Mercedes 4-door with Texas tags. They say he was driving along US 127 towards Frankfort when officers stopped him at 2:24 Thursday morning. Police arrested Gillispie at 2:47 and charged him with driving under the influence. His passenger, 42-year-old Charles O'Connor of Versailles was also arrested and charged with alcohol intoxication. The two were later taken from Lawrenceburg to the Franklin County Regional Detention Center where they were formally processed around 5:15.
Hours later, when Gillispie's lawyer came to take he and O'Connor home, he had little to say.
Darran Winslow told members of the media from both Louisville and Lexington "We don't have a comment right now. Just trying to make sure he gets back safely and has an uneventful ride home."
Winslow says he's taking the former coach back to Louisville but wouldn't say where. Winslow also wouldn't say what Gillispie was doing in Lawrenceburg, but police say he told them he was playing golf when he was pulled over.
Gillespie was arraigned by video at 8:30 this morning in the Anderson County Courthouse. He pleaded not guilty to the DUI charge.

The best UK ever had both on the court and off was Tubby Smith. However, the KY folks just could not get over the color of his skin. Well guess what, he is doing much better without the KY folks. I hope Rick P keeps on and I hope Billy G drains the school completely dry and I hope he lands back on his feet. He will and do much better. The high and mighty UK is having a touch of bad days but more is to come.

Should have in Lawrenceburg. Shell people did the right thing. It's not their job to straighten out a drunk coach. They could have been sued for "treating" him or, if he hurt someone, it's their fault.

The post from Matt needs to be read again. Matts comments are right on the money. Billie G. should have book thrown at him, this is number 3. Posted by: Matt Location: Lexington on Aug 28, 2009 at 09:29 AM Billy G is an irresponsible piece of trash. Anyone who drinks and drives needs to be strung up by a long piece of rope! Anyone who says to get off his back about this should think about the consequences his actions could have caused. Think if he were to have hit someone or killed someone. Think about if he hit you or your family or someone you cared about... Drunk driving is rediculous, irresponsible, immature, and selfish. Chances are, he will get a slap on the wrist like every other drunk that decides to drive. He didn't just get pulled over because of his status in KY; He got pulled over for being a moron. How many people have to be hurt by drunk drivers before KY Courts will get some stiffer punishment?
