In April, WYMT first reported the news about an electric car maker making plans to locate to Whitley County. The president of Global Green Cars, Inc. now confirms the company will begin making the move to Williamsburg within the next month.
For so many people looking for work right now, it's encouraging economic news.
"I think it will be great, help the economy, and give a lot of people with no jobs work," says Arlie Lovins, who says he was just laid off from his construction job and now looking for work.
Global Green Cars makes cars that run completely off electric power, through batteries. After considering sites in four different states, the manufacturer's president says he chose Whitley County as the place to start a new plant, where it will make an electric car, SUV, and a one of a kind electric pick-up truck, the only one on the market.
"It's just very nice to find out this area is going to get some new employment opportunities," says Jim Thomas, who is also looking for a job right now.
"We've been working with them for quite some time trying to create these jobs in this area. We've been working with the state to get the incentives package through," says Whitley County Judge Executive Pat White.
More than 15 million in incentives, a central location, and plenty of good workers is what company officials say made the location so attractive. Global Green Cars, Inc. will first use the old Lion Apparel building in Williamsburg, employing close to one hundred workers, with plans for a new industrial park down the road.
"That plant will employ up to 500 employees, it will be a three-shift operation, and it's designed to produce between 30 - 50,000 vehicles per year," says Brooks Agnew, Global Green Cars President.
That new plant and industrial park is expected to be built within about two years.
GGC's president says hiring for the new plant will not begin until later this year.

GSPI has been a sinkhole for investors for almost two decades. Think about it, can you see audited financials from this company? NO. Can get a clear business plan from management? NO. Do your own research before even attempting to invest funds here. I doubt they will ever be buuilding a plant in Kentucky.
GSPI or Greenstar is the only way you can buy stock in this company.
