Dozens of parents ask officials to leave their school the way it is.

The possibility of dividing Allen Elementary school was discussed at a school board meeting Monday night in Betsy Layne.

Several parents and teachers from Allen Elementary showed up at the Floyd County School Board Meeting, hoping to convince the board not to divide their school.

School board member Linda Gearheart says Allen Elementary educates students in grades K-8, but she says the school board has proposed that students in sixth, seventh and eighth grades be moved to Adams Middle School.

She says they're discussing the move because another Floyd County elementary school is too crowded.

“Our kids are at home here. If they move into a new school. It's going to be like moving into a new neighborhood. We don't know what we're going to face and we just want our kids to stay at Allen,” Lennis Newsome said.

“It's a wonderful school. It's a school that's like family,” Deborah Lewis said.

Parents and students showed up in green to support their school.

Some teachers and parents of Allen Elementary spoke to the school board saying that dividing the school would not be a benefit to the students.

Gearheart says the move would make Allen Elementary only grades K-5, but this is just in the discussion stages right now and it may not even happen.
