A Magoffin County resident has been charged with drug
trafficking following an undercover investigation by Operation UNITE.

Darrell B. Patrick, age 46, of Old U.S. Highway 460, Salyersville, was
arrested at his home shortly after 2 p.m. Tuesday, October 27.

UNITE detectives were assisted by Magoffin Sheriff Randall Jordan and a sheriff¹s deputy.

Patrick, a teacher at North Magoffin Elementary School, faces six counts of first-degree trafficking in a controlled substance (Oxycodone).

The drug buys took place between August and October, said Dan Smoot, law enforcement director for UNITE.

Each of the illegal sales occurred at Mr. Patrick¹s residence, Smoot said. "At this time we have no reason to believe that he sold drugs on school grounds or to any children."

Last Friday UNITE detectives served a search warrant for Patrick¹s home as part of their three-month investigation. Although items were seized, Smoot said no information would be released about the search at this time.

Additional charges are pending presentation of evidence to the Magoffin
County Grand Jury.

Patrick was lodged in the Big Sandy Regional Detention Center.

Amen to Mr. Patrick's IQ. He is a very smart man who used bad judgement if he did as they say he did. Any of you out ever make a bad judgement? I know he is a teacher and a pillow of society but he is also human. Humans make mistakes. He is a good teacher, he loves working with children. He does not draw welfare, sit on the courthouse as a bum. He works very hard to support his family. He is a great teacher, carpenter and laborer.

wow, he borrowed a saddle and forgot to return it? your right they should hang him, you guys should really wait for the trial, the cops don't always get it right, if every investigation sent a bad guy to jail the would need a lot of prisons. This is why I think these stories should not be printed until someone is found guilty, even if charges are dropped his rep is ruined....heck it was sketchy in the first place. CONCERNED, is your "caps lock" button stuck? Do you think because he wroks as a teacher, that means he is rich? really? Do you think the cops are always right, and if they arrest someone who gets out of trouble every time it is because they are crooked? What if by some accident your name is mixed in with a drug investigation, but you were innocent? Would you want people to be reading it on the news and jumping to judgement? As for the person wanting to test IQs, how much would you like to bet on that? You want to put your IQ up against MR. Patricks? You would lose.

I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR THAT DARRELL PATRICK GET HIS DRUG CHARGES DROPPED BECAUSE HE IS A TEACHER.WHEN POOR PEOPLE GET CHARGED THEY SET THERE WHEN ALL THEY ARE TRYING TO DO IS MAKE ENDS MEAT FOR THEIR FAMILY. I BELIEVE THEY NEED TO INVESTAGATE HIM A LITTLE DEEPER.HE HAS A STOLEN SADDLE THAT HE WAS SUSPOSE TO RETURN TO THE OWNER AND DID NOT.THAT' SRECIEVING STOLEN PROPERTY. I THINK THEY ALL SHOULD BE TREATED FAIR.SOUNDS LIKE UNITE AND SOME OF THE OFFICERS SHOULD BE INVESTAGATED IF THEY ARE GONNA DO FAVORS.
