Until someone loses a loved one at the hands of an impaired driver, they could never fully understand that pain and the emptiness it causes. I hope this family finds some kind of solace whether it be by faith or by the punishment of the guilty. My heart goes out to them.

Probably because in most states, first-degree murder is defined as an unlawful killing that is both willful and premeditated. A person is guilty of reckless homicide when, with recklessness he causes the death of another person. With that said, he should still be punished to the full extent that the law allows.

Lynne... I agree 100% with you, & to be honest he probably was initially charged with Murder 1st and then in a pretrial hearing was pled down to a Reckless Homicide (not for sure on that, that's just the way it usually goes). The problem the courts have with trying to prove Murder 1st is that you have to show intent, and as heinous as a drunk driving murder is, it isn't the same as someone planning and carrying out a murder, at least in the courts eyes it isn't the same. I would say to the family that lost their daughter/mother/etc. it is the same. That is why these type death's are so tragic, because they are so needless.
