An eastern Kentucky high school marching band is once again one of the best in the state.

The Hazard Band of Gold placed fourth in Class A at the state marching band finals competition Saturday night at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.

Hazard was the only band from the WYMT viewing area to reach the finals in any class.

They were the smallest band among the 20 that competed in finals.

Under director Pauletta Smith, Hazard has won three state championships and been in the finals numerous times since 1987.
