NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A group of music figures has begun a
campaign against mountaintop coal removal.
The campaign, Music Saves Mountains, is sponsored by the Natural
Resources Defense Council and the Gibson Foundation. Robert F.
Kennedy Jr., a senior attorney with the council, addressed those
attending a meeting Monday night.
Those at the gathering included Emmylou Harris, Randy Travis,
Big Kenny Alphin, Dierks Bentley, Delbert McClinton, Kid Rock and
J.D. Souther.
Harris said protection is needed for the Appalachian mountains,
where country music was born and is celebrated in song.

What business do these singers have even discussing coal mining. And please, Kid Rock doesn't care about mountains, he just cares about where his drugs will come from. They are all has beens and are trying to get their name back out into the limelight. I would love to see Kid Rock, Randy Travis, Dierks Bentley, and the other wannabe try to work one day under ground. Then they would see what a real man is made of. This is our way of life and it has been for centuries. What I don't understand is why in the world do ppl get so teary eyed over saving a tree or mountain and never take a stand on abortion!!!! Save the trees and mountains but kill the children... that is truly appaling to me. I never listened to these singers "noise" anyway so it makes no difference to me. One of these days when they leave this world and don't get to keep their big mansions and fancy cars they will wish they had invested their time and energy into something worth it....The Lord!!!!
We love mountains...because they produce coal!!! I will never buy another thing to help promote any of these singers or fatten their wallets. Anyone against Coal loses my support whether it be a country singer or the President...and over the last few months I've lost respect for several people. These people can discuss and protest until the cows come home but do you think they give up their limos, tour busses, personal jets or any other ammenities they have that POLLUTE mother Earth. Practice what you preach.
What I will never understand is why people think it is okay to remove the mountains to put in new amusement parks, malls, or condo's? However, if it is done to produce coal that will fuel these things then it somehow becomes bad. All these people that are against coal should have their electricity cut off, cut themselves off from the world, move to the mountains they so-called love, and try living like Survivor Man. See how long this country would last without coal. They'd be begging for it back. Things are easily said but rarely done.
