NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - A group of music figures has begun a
campaign against mountaintop coal removal.

The campaign, Music Saves Mountains, is sponsored by the Natural
Resources Defense Council and the Gibson Foundation. Robert F.
Kennedy Jr., a senior attorney with the council, addressed those
attending a meeting Monday night.

Those at the gathering included Emmylou Harris, Randy Travis,
Big Kenny Alphin, Dierks Bentley, Delbert McClinton, Kid Rock and
J.D. Souther.

Harris said protection is needed for the Appalachian mountains,
where country music was born and is celebrated in song.

Are they going to sing in the dark? and sing thru megaphones and bring plenty of blankets and pack your own lunch This should give a new meaning to being in the spotlight.

I would just like to say, I USED to LOVE these singers. But not anymore. I took their cd's out and set them in the fire. i AM FROM Letcher CO, and im working my butt off to become a country singer, which is my lifelong dream..and WHEN i ever get there, I PROMISE TO ALWAYS COME BACK AND HELP THIS CO, AND STATE OUT IN ALL I CAN, AND SO HELP ME, I WILL SUPPORT COAL. Kathy Mattea came to LCCHS about all she sung was coal, WHAT A FREAKIN POSER!!My parents, mother and father worked in the mines, which is how they met. My dad got blacklung while trying to SUPPORT his family, and my mother got pregnant with me. Once she had me, she worked at a local "personally owned" grocery store for only 5.00 per hour for six years. 13 hours a day, 6 days a week, just to get us by. in June of 2006, she decided that we needed insurance and other things. She got her re-training and now works for Sapphire Coal. from 4am till 4 or 5pm six and seven days a week. IF YOUR DONT SUPPORT COAL, TURN OFF YOUR LIGHTS!!!

News Flash - Anyone that has converted over to an alternative source of energy can complain all they want, but all of the hypocrits that are still using the energy supplied by coal, well I think you get the picture. If you really believe coal to be the problems, then stop using the energy supplied by it. You can go online and order everything you need to convert your home and you can ride a bike or walk to where you want to go. I also have something to say to all those coal miners and their families, "THANK YOU".
