The company behind a controversial proposal to open a methadone clinic in Somerset is backing away, but not quietly.
Somerset addiction solutions said the decision not to open the clinic will cost the company at least $15,000,000 in future revenue.
The Lexington Herald Leader says the company is now suing Somerset and Pulaski County, along with Operation UNITE, who all opposed the clinic.
The lawsuit claims that efforts to block the clinic discriminated against people with disabilities, among other things.

The methadone clinic has allowed my brother to get his life back, and made our whole family stress free. He goes and gets his medicine (paying around 12 dollars a day as opposed to the hundreds he used to steal and spend on pills), he goes to work, and even takes care of his family. He is in awe that he is able to lead a normal life, and even talks of the day he will be sober! I don't care if methadone replaces one drug for another...or if it is unhealthy for your body (not as much as nomal opiates, since it is synthetic), I don't care if he's on it until the day he dies. Atleast now, our whole family can live our lives. Don't you people that are opposed to a clinic see this??? If your son or daughter is addicted to oxycontin and steals from you...you would probably rethink your opposition. If you are/were an opiate addict, if you have a loved one on drugs, or if you have had a problem with a person under the influence of methadone, then your opinion counts...otherwise ...shut up!

What about what Methadone does to the people that get hooked on this hillbilly heroin! Do their lives not matter? What about their families, their friends, do they matter? What about what they lose because of all of it? No more deaths, no more jailings, no more crap for our citizens and no more drugs from those that can so legally push them and then sue because it is going to cause them to lose so much legal revenue, and yes it is illegally traded on the streets by addicts, the owners of these business's should go to jail really. NO more! It has to stop some place. I am with Pulaski County on this. Count me in if you need me! Yes, I have a lifetime of experience with addiction. I also have note books full on this exact subject. The research company that did the report for Kentucky that said we need more treatment or methadone, has ties with E Li Lilly Liar the maker of Methadone. That's a conflict of interest. Methadone causes real and serious diseases and long term ones at that.

People who are against Methadone clinics are ignorant, they have never been addicted and dont know anything about it. Methadoe clinics have got more ppl off opiate drugs than all the other rehabs, detoxes, suboxone combined, look it up, it is true. And you cant take it and trade it like "I Know" says on here, they blind dose you at the clinic. The Methadone clinic is the absolute best thing to happen to Eastern Ky in Hazard, Pikeville, Paintsville, to keep ppl off drugs.
