Some Eastern Kentucky drama students were named to the Kentucky Theatre Association's All-State Cast this weekend.

Honors were handed out this past weekend during the KTA’s competition.

Seven students from Eastern Kentucky were chosen to the All-State Cast, something these students take pride in.

“Not everybody gets to do it and it was a surprise for us, and we're all really happy about it,” Perry County Central High School Junior Caitlyn Dixon says.

“It was shock actually,” Harlan County High School Junior Taylor Evans says. “I didn't expect it I was really happy but I know that without these people I couldn't have done it.”

Knox County Central High School Senior Samson Warren says he was asked to be in their performance, even though he wasn't in the drama class. He wound up making the all-state cast.

“I’ve been doing it since mid October and so I didn't really expect to become all state because everyone else was great,” Warren says.

All seven drama students say it's an honor to be named to the all state cast, but they say they don't need the recognition. They just love being in the limelight on the stage.

“We just enjoy putting together the show,” Dixon says. “We enjoy just all the work we put in to it and we like to have the audience feedback. Like we love hearing everybody laughing and we love just knowing we can entertain people.”

Evans says, performing was great, but it was a lot of hard work.

“The weekend was very stressful,” Evans says. “On the bus ride over, we studied the script the entire time and that was the most nerve-wrecking.”

But for the seven performers chosen from the mountains, the nerves were worth it

More than 15 schools participated in the competition.

The KTA handed out more than 20 All-State Cast positions.
